Not just social media. Main stream media deals with this all the time when they have to decide whether to use video from viewers and other sources other than their staff and network. You really have blinders on. Had a demo many years back of software that allows photos to be realistically modified. Almost every cell phone camera has that software now to erase or modify items. Which is why almost every properly piece of video no matter who shot it includes a "wide establishing" shot so viewers can see if there are 12 or 1200 protestors, for example.
