Yes I made the candy corn for the first time. I made them way too big though. Here is the link for the recipe I got it from Alton Brown's "Good Eats" . Next time I think I would add a little bit more vanilla.

We were recently on the east coast, and came across the following:

A Spider:

Mums (and a Jack-o-lantern, although lit only by the sun)

Fallen leaves (Still connected to the oak tree branches, compliments of the heavy snow on Oct 29th)

and, Finally, a fall flag (or better stated, a Flag in fall)

This weekend, I headed to the Collingwood Children's Farm.

This farm is located within 3 - 5 km of the CBD. You wouldn't know it to look at pictures of the paddocks like this...

The Yarra River, which runs through the Melbourne CBD is where the trees are.



They have a kitchen garden at the farm. Look at those Apple trees...orchard

Why did I head there? Well.....on the first Sunday of each month, it is Family Day at the CCF. And that means.....tractor Hay Rides!

I got there early to look around the farm. And happened to be at this barn at the right time...

I guessed they were setting up for the tractor ride and got a couple of shots - just in case.

Turned out to be a good move...this was the first ride of the day.

I got into the second ride of the day....

The CCF is located next to a-no-longer-used convent. You may have spotted the building in the background in the hay ride we went on.
The convent is now home to a variety of establishments and unbeknownst to me, I'd picked the prime day to visit the area.


It's spring in Melbourne....and lots of festivals and fairs are on. This one is at the neighbourhood Steiner school Fall...er...Spring Fair.

The classrooms were all beautifully displayed with the children's works....like this.

The Steiner School wasn't the only festival happening at the Abbotsford Convent. Look what Fall....er.....Spring Fair I found! And it even might qualify for World Series related....

I'm sure you all know that I like quirky things....and this fair did NOT disappoint. Have a look at the activities happening at the WVD!

....then again, looking at the food demonstration topics....maybe NOT!

Where there are Vegans, there is bound to be vegan food. And have a look at some of these!!


I headed straight for the Soy-A-lent Green place. The name just kept a-calling me!

The arancini...

...and the rice paper rolls.

And I was instantly also attracted to the Eggrolls/Spring Rolls

These are all vegan gluten free.

This is a vegan soy cheesecake.

I saw this produce and wanted to take a picture. I thought it would suit the category of Fall Colours

The owner told me to take all the shots I wanted...

...because she wanted me to send them to her as well! So, I obliged with the mandatory promotional shots to make sure I got product placement right!

When I moved to go, she gave me a couple of things. It's not much...but I got 'paid' in an organic banana and two organic strawberries. I figured I had about $4 worth right here!

Which reminds me....I need to send them to her.

Favourite Fall Food Green leafy vegetables feature in Fall...

...so this week, I made a Spinach, Mushroom and Ricotta lasagne. Well...the spinach may have been frozen and defrosted....

but the mushrooms were fresh and earthy!

Another favourite fall food seems to be mac and cheese. But DH is off cheese at the moment...so I had to make a different kind of pasta. This one is Penne Puttanesca.

My holy grails for this hunt are the black animals. Yes, I know I've posted Black Cat and Black (and White) Crow....but not the real things!


I was really lucky at the Farm.....I looked in one of the gardens nearby and do you see what I saw??

You might also remember that I posted a picture of an Australian Magpie for the Black Crow....this picture...

You might even have thought that I was stretching the category at the time because there is a LOT of white shown on back of the magpie. Well...at the time, try as hard as I could, I didn't manage to get to the front of the magpie...


I finally found a specimen today that was more keen to show me his front than his back! The front shows more Black Crow than White!

And I've also been trying to get a shot of the Australian Black Raven since the hunt started! These can also be found near me....but they have been MOCKING me!!

Well....they mock no longer! I found a group of about 4 today and managed these shots on one Black Raven .

You might also note that the tree the raven is on....is a gum tree. We might not have Acorns at this time of year...but we sure have Gum Nuts.

Yes, I do know it is compost! But really....it is Springtime here! I'm NOT going to have a lovely pile of golden, red, brown, yellow leaves to jump into.

But this guy might actually love to jump into my leaf pile for me!
