Photo Assignment August '07: Animals

Nice photos, everyone!

OT - but can those who have names on their photos explain how you do that? Thanks!

I just added text to a new layer over the picture and then when I liked it I just flattened them. I got the custom brush to work once but then I couldn't get it to do it again. :) there is a pretty cool site with a bunch of cool tutorials for photo shop and ps elements. www.escrappers.com

Jenn- What kind of dog is that? Very cute.:goodvibes
My girl used to be afraid of the camera too - now she jumps right in and poses. Of course it took until she was about 5 to get her to hold still for a split second. She's a Jack Russell Terrier though so it's the breed!:goofy:

The puppy is a mutt. His mommy looks like your doggie. I suspect she is mainly JRT, but as she is from the Humane Society we can't be 100% certain what she is. If I can convince her to stay still for the camera I will post on of her tomorrow.

I shot these sea snails with my Canon Rebel XTi about 30 minutes before sunset on a clear day. Both were taken using my Tamron 28-75 f2.8 lens.

In this shot the snail is in about a foot of water. This shot was taken manual exposure at ISO 400, lens at 75mm, Aperture f5.0, Speed 1/80, auto white balance, uv filter

DCG- Your hawk shots are super!

Unfortunately, I haven't made it out to our zoo to shoot some wildlife. So I'll have to submit another pet pic.

Here's our Cockapoo running through the yard.

Thanks woj68, nice capture of your dog, all it needs is a cape. BTW the hawk shot isn't from a zoo, it flew down in front of my car on a dirt road and when it flew back into the trees I drove down the road a bit and then got out to get some pics, it just hung around, I got lucky. Thanks again.

That's what I call being in the right place at the right time. Nicely done. :thumbsup2

This little wren was waiting to get to her nest in my back yard.

Great shots everyone! I shot this fella (Rainbow Lorikeet) in my back yard this morning. He was having a feast on the bottle brushes, which are the best I have seen for ages! Drought must agree with them!

Taken with my Canon S3, playing with various settings. Also on full zoom, I think, as the tree is quite tall. I have cropped it to centre him some more, but that is all.

Wow! Gorgeous shot Heather. I love the color and cropping. Very sharp too. :thumbsup2

I took the kids to the Zoo today and after the "Wings of Wonder" show I was able to get a shot of this guy - the Spectacled Owl" - I have to say, I never knew trying to get a photo of a bird could be so hard! He never stopped moving! He kept spinning his head around and around - which was very cool, if I wasn't trying to take his picture!!!

IMG_4464.jpg

Shot with a Canon S2IS, ISO 50, program mode - used 1/60 and F4.0. Just realized the ISO was so low - may explain why I have the motion blur! Thought I had it on 200! Live and learn~

We went to the Detroit Zoo on Friday and they had a small Polar bear swimming around. You could see him in a glass tunnel. It was so neat!
I have a Rebel XTi. I used my EFS18-55mm kit lens

I hope butterflies count as animals, even though they're insects. Took this one yesterday; I can't figure out why the background came out black. There was a Christmas tree behind my butterfly bush; maybe because I did the "no-no" of shooting in bright sunlight?? Whatever the reason, I really liked the way it came out:

Took this one today, same flower, diff. butterfly:

I had filled up my bird feeders this morning and since I was standing so still taking a zillion butterfly pictures, this little guy decided to come for an afternoon snack and he didn't notice me at first:

Then he heard my dog sniffing around, so he retreated to a tree:
