This is my first time posting over here - I have a Canon S2 IS & am trying to learn how to use it better - these pics were all taken just on auto mode. We went to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo a couple weeks ago:

enjoyed your photos Emily, i live in hamden/chardon area now but lived in mentor( just west of cordouroy rd on lakeshore ) for decades.
is the tram up to the bears open now or do you still have to walk there? they had it shut due to the bridge demolition last time we were at the zoo and it was to much walking for me so i hoped they would reopen the tram soon.

Here's my daughter's mare looking pretty last week...taken with my Canon IS3 in portrait mode from about 30 feet away.

Our new baby birds that are in the barn...taken in auto mode with a flash.

My horse, Roman, shortly before he pulled the rope out of my friend's hand and made a dash for freedom!

Ginger was a beautiful dog. I know what it is like to lose a pet that is so dear. I am very sorry for your loss.

Nothing like going on safari (zoo) for some great photo-ops.

This is cropped and slightly sharpened but otherwise not adjusted. See the Exif data for more info.

Here is one of my sisters dog's. Took a portrait then an extreme closeup...

Nikon D50, Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens, f/4, 1/60th at I think ISO 800. Should have gone with a narrower f/stop to get more of her face in focus.

This was about as close as she would let me get before she moved away:
Same settings as above.

I'm so excited! :cool1: This is the first time I've been able to get a "decent" photo of a hummingbird! They are not great, but they have the bird in focus which is a major accomplishment for me!!;) I was out trying to get a few shots of a sunflower that had just opened up when this little guy flew into view. He seemed quite content to be within a few feet of my head. I just had trouble keeping him in the view finder!:goodvibes I'm just bummed that I was at the angle I was - my lovely airconditioner unit sits in this flower bed. Now I have an argument to put up a fence with climbing roses around it!!!LOL "I have to have a backdrop for the hummingbirds!" No pp, these are straight from the camera. I'm hoping when I run them thru they'll clean up a bit. TFL!:)

great hummingbird pics - I keep trying but all I get are blurred photos;)

Thank you! I've tried several times over the summer, but I always end up with blur and a very frustrated self! I plan to try again over the next few weeks, once the kids are back in school and I can sit on the patio for a few hours undisturbed!:woohoo: I think using a tripod will also help a lot - that and a ton of patience!;)

We-Luv-Disney,
that's really great! Look at those sharp little claws - guess that's how they get up those trees so fast!!:goodvibes I also love the background, how did you do that? :confused3 TIA!
Marge

Thank you!! I was able to blur the background by using a telephoto lens (300mm) and a large aperture or f-stop. BTW great work on the humming birds, they are very hard to catch!! It took me 9 years to get a good hummer shot! Nice work:thumbsup2
