Is it different for BT numbers?

I always dial 01144 then the UK number (minus the first 0), but I've only ever dialled to BT numbers.

so if I wanted to dial 0207 222 1234 do I dial....

011 44 207 222 1234

this is the London Transport number so don't get excited I'm not giving away my home telephone number
