phones with touch screens...is it just me?

You kinda connect-the-dots with the letters on the keypad :)

I've never had a problem. I have the iPhone 4 now and find the touchscreen easier to use than the original Motorola Droid, which I had before. Even when I had the Droid, I never used the pull-out keyboard.

Maybe it just takes some getting used to?

Swype is an app on my droid (LG Optimus S) that allows me to swipe or move my finger across the keyboard to spell the word instead of typing each letter hunt and peck style. Imagine spelling disney on your keyboard by running your finger from d-i-s-n-e-y and the phone spells it for you automatically.

My phone occasionally puts the wrong word in there...it seems to think I want to say things that I don't but I can fix them pretty easily. I LOVE Swype.

I have an LG Optimus which I love (even though my dog chewed it) and I can text easily on it. It has a voice to text feature. I use that a lot. In situations where I can't voice to text I just peck. I turned swype off because it was irritating me when I first got the phone. I may be ready to try it again.

I used a Blackberry this morning for a call that has a keyboard. It felt so weird! I'm a touchscreen girl now!

Oh...and I've also stopped hanging up on people with my ear (on the touchscreen)!

A few months ago I washed my Blackberry, so told my husband to pick me up the cheapest phone that would still work w/ my phone plan. He got me some type of touch screen thing. Horrible!!!! After about 30 minutes I threw a screaming fit and told him to take it back and buy me a new Blackberry. Never again!!! I have to have a phone for work, it has to be easy, and I have way too much to do to mess around w/ figuring something out.

I could have written your post a month ago! Have had a Palm for 4 years and refused to upgrade because I could never spell anything right on the touchscreens. I finally caved and got the Droid Incredible 2 (Verizon) and I have to admit I really like it! I still can't type well with the phone in regular mode, but like others have said, when you turn it sideways the "keys" are much bigger and I have quickly become pretty accurate. Plus, there is auto correct which usually helps (although it gets some things wrong...changed the name jordie to horrid :rotfl:). I bought my phone at Best Buy where there was a 30 day return/exchange policy which made me feel better (and the price was $50 less than at the Verizon store).

occasionally? Mine is horrible. When I first started using swype I loved it, but I swear its gotten dumber over time! I'm constantly deleting words out of the dictionary and its constantly creating new ones. I miss my blackberry and its been almost a year. I do love all of the other features though.

I have Swype texting on my touchscreen. Love it :thumbsup2

Me too. I love swype! Can't get my DH to use it, though..so I get some funny texts sometimes from him :) Takes me a while to figure out what he really meant when he hits the wroing button on his touchscreen.

You do get used to it and the autocorrect helps, but sometimes it's just a menace. (see this site - warning: NOT rated G) But I also have a hard time with tiny QWERTY keyboards on phones too so I would rather have to battle with autocorrect and just go slower.

It took me a long time to get used to my little tracfone LG touchscreen but now I use my fingernail & that helps. I do like the word finder feature so I just have to type a few letters to get my words.

I used to feel that way...but I love my Droid X and I love my Swype. :) I totally got used to the touch screen and honestly, the Droid X touch screen is super easy to use......I have small fingers and I have issues with the iTouch but the Droid is great. :)

Practice. I was terrible with my iphone. I would have to use one finger to type a letter at a time. By the time i switched to my new phone, i could type almost as fast as i can on a regular keyboard. Of course the new phone had a slightly different keyboard, so im slow again for awhile. Lol.

If you keep having a problem you may want to invest in one of the touch screen pens.

haha. we call it "fat fingers". I have a severe case. My texts and emails always come out so mixed up. and the auto correct only made it worse! I love my iphone, just not typing stuff on it. :)

I need to amend my reply... As I was reading further posts about auto-correct in Swype sometimes being wonky, I remembered that I don't even use Swype anymore! :headache: In my head, any sort of swiping-motion text input is Swype to me, since that's the first I used.

BUT, I switched to an app called FlexT9 Text Input a while back when it was the Amazon free app of the day, and LOVE it. It gets words right much more often -- in fact it's very rare for it to not get a word right. Sometimes I think it just reads my mind, when it gets it right after my spastic swiping, lol. The one and only thing I don't like is that there is no haptic feedback, but I'm hoping they add that in a later update.

Sorry if I was misleading earlier!

It took a while for me to get used to the qwerty keyboard on my phone. It's taken a while to get used to the touch screen, and I'm still not that great at it.

There's still several phone that have slide out keyboards along with a touch screen. They're still a decent price on a renewal. It's what I'm leaning towards for my next phone, and I'm in love with the andriod.

I would love to get a phone that has a touch screen but the texting never seems to work well for me. I can't believe I have fingers that are unusually large but anytime I try texting with one it doesn't seem to pick up the letter I'm hitting. So is it just me or do others have issues with touchscreens too?

I find myself being limited to phones that have qwerty keyboards.

I have an iphone and I definitley find texting more difficult than I did on my blackberry but I'm getting more used to it now, 2 mths later! Those first few weeks I wanted to return it and get back my blackberry :)
