phone suggestions

I am currently on Virgin Mobile and need a new phone. My Kyorca Rise suddenly stopped allowing me to hear people during phone calls. I've been that crazy lady on speaker phone in the grocery store, and it needs to stop!

I'm looking for suggestions on a new phone. My tech crazed nephew tells me that a 4G phone is the way to go. But I'm not sure. Are they really that much better than the 3G phones? Are they really worth paying $250 and up for?

I'd like to spend as little as possible but still get a decent phone. Suggestions? If 4G is really that much better I guess I can spend the extra money, but if don't have to I don't want to.

How much do you do online on your phone and how long do you intend to have the phone? Depending on your carrier, the 4G phones are much much faster. The fear with buying a 3G phone now is that the carriers will eventually phase out the 3G technology thus rendering the phone useless for data communications. I personally don't think that's likely in the near future, but remember that most carriers consider the life of a phone to be 2 years.
