Are there charges for local and/or 800 calls from Disney resorts?
I've heard people complain about long distance charges. I usually use my cell phone for most long distance calls, but I might bring my laptop to access my server with an 800# or perhaps a local #. Thanks for all replies

The only free numbers you can call are Disney information and PS dinning line. We used these quite a bit but used our cell phones for everything else. We had heard of people having problems with cells phone on Dinsey propery, but we were fine with ours, even in the parks.

Who is your cellular provider? I have cingular and we were fine in some parks but had trouble in the room.

I believe even Cell Phones at WDW are subject to "surcharges" - I used my Cell Phone for long distance on the last trip and had Roaming charges (not as bad as the room phone rate but annoying) - Cingular (I thought I had a 'no-roaming' contract) claimed that it was because of the 'Disney phone company' - Vista-United Telecomm.

If you call long distance direct from a WDW hotel, you will be charged the long distance fee + 50% surcharge. There is a pamphlet by the phone in the room that explains all charges.

Even using a phone card from Disney is charged at Disney's rates! For most phone cards 1 unit= 1 minute if you are calling within the US. We had a 200 min phone card and I was dumbfounded when I got the one minute warning after about an hour. Not sure exactly how long I talked, but I was charged 3-4 units for each minute. Also, I only made ONE 1-800 call to the phone card company, but pressed # in between calls, thinking I'd only get charged for one 1-800 call, but I was still charged for 3. We used our cell phone when it was convenient, but didn't get reception inside our room at CBR.

the rates i was charged at the Dolphin was a Rate of $2.25 and a 65% surcharge!!!

Bstanley,

We didn't get the "surcharges" added to our cell phone bill. We were there in January and used our phones a lot both in the park and at the resort. We have alltell service and just found this interesting. Has anyone else had this happen to them?
