Phone cameras on dark rides/shows

I remember for years cameras/flash photography was not allowed on dark rides or shows. In my opinion the phone cameras should not be allowed on dark rides or shows. There are people with many different low vision problems that a light of that sort compromises the person's vision. I have advanced macular degeneration which is just one of the many low vision problems that camera lights in a dark situations is a problem. I attended multiple HR conferences at the Disney Institute and Disney HR stated that the restrictions on flash photography or lights in the dark rides and shows was to enhance the enjoyment of the guest. Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hall of Presidents and Haunted Mansion were their examples. I guess that is not the case now. I feel sure that the majority of guests would not have a problem with the restrictions now.

There are still restrictions but as with most “rules” there are those who do not follow them. It might be simply a matter of “not thinking” in the moment or it might be a blatant disregard for the rights of others. There is not much that can be done about it unfortunately. Enforcement of these is nearly impossible although I have (in the past) seen CM’s politely “remind” offenders in stationary attractions (theater venue presentations).

I believe you are saying that the rules and reminders are about using a flash, but for some people, even using a phone camera, without the flash, affects your enjoyment of the attraction because of the light from the screen only, is that correct?

If so, then I thank you for your input, because although I am conscious of and avoid using my phone to take a photo or video held in such a way that it would be in the field of vision of other guests, I have not thought much about the light from the screen itself. Hopefully sharing your experience will help us all be more courteous of others.

That is correct. Thanks for your post.

Yeah light from people’s screens is annoying as well as the people who have flash or light on. Typically the clown filming with the phone holds it high so it’s right in your line of sight.

Here is a tip to share with everyone you talk about planning a trip to Disney.
You don't need to take photos on rides or of the parades or of the fireworks. Don't even bother. There are plenty of professional photos and full-ride videos of all of the attractions that were taken by professional photographers/videographers with much better professional equipment.

Take photos of your family all about the parks sure, but there is no need to try to take a picture of Winnie the Pooh in his Honey Hut.

Spread the word.
