So we are arriving at the Grand Floridian tomorrow morning. It is our first time staying at this hotel. We have been to Disney many times over the past 20 years so Disney vacations are not new to us. Today, something odd happened. I received an email from a room assigner requesting that I call them. Has anyone else had this happen? I was afraid that they were going to move me out of our hotel. He just asked me about my preferences for my room. It was a pleasant call but really worried me. Should I worry?

Zero reason to worry. It's something they have been doing periodically for the last year.

I got a call from a Poly room assignor on our check-in day sometime last year (first and only time that has happened in our WDW travels). It was the morning of our travel day and we were still at home - hadn’t even finished packing. I’ll spare the specifics, but it was basically to chat about my room requests and ask about a preference. I’m sure it had to do with the daily Tetris game they play of assigning rooms. I appreciated the phone call.

Yes, I have received multiple calls. I live an hour from Disney and often times Disney does not have rooms available for short 2-day trips. I often have to reserve two different resort stays to stay the amount of time I want to. Sometimes I have to book two different resort categories for my stay. I have had the room assigner call to tell me they are combing both stays in the same room, or they call and let me know I will have to change rooms due to capacity. I booked two different categories, so I don't expect them to always call. However, it is nice when the resort does call and lets you know what you are walking into when you check in.

I don't want to get your hopes to high, but this happened last August as well... They called my home phone & left a message & fortunately for us my Mother in law was there at the time. she immediately called us to let us know that we should contact this person. We were flying in from Puerto Rico and they switched our flights.
Well when we were on our drive up from Ft Lauderdale my wife did indeed call, only to find out that we got upgraded from a DVC studio, to a 2 BR SUITE.....And let me tell you, it was SWEET...Pun intended.

Here's a link to the quick synopsis of that story...https://www.disboards.com/threads/thank-you-grand-floridian.3629187/

Thanks everyone for telling me about your experiences. I was really nervous that maybe they overbooked the resort and would move us. However, the room assigner was wonderful. He asked what building I wanted (no idea, never stayed here before) and then asked about specific requests. I didn’t have many as I’m just so excited to stay at the GF after 20 years of wishing for it. He was great about it and told me to call back if I needed/wanted anything else. While an upgrade would be great, I feel like I am already living a dream getting to stay here so I am thrilled with the room that I booked.

So excited for tomorrow!!!

Well, we were upgraded!! I had booked 9 nights in a standard view and we were upgraded to a Lagoon View. We were able to see the Contemporary, Space Mountain and the castle! (The castle was partially blocked by a large pine tree but we could see the fireworks each night from our balcony.)

It was an amazing trip!

Nice! Normally upgrades like that don’t happen with longer stays. Our stays are usually 10-14 days and we never get contacted by room assignors!

Oh wow! We must have really had some major pixie dust sprinkled on us!
Glad you got some.....GF Is awesome BTW.....I never thought that I'd say that, but after staying there....I get it..
