Phone Call from Disney

I am so bummed! Tonight I got a call from Disney and the message said that our family had been selected for a special Walt Disney World offer. I am not exactly sure of the wording (think it was offer), but it said to press 1 to talk to an agent (again, not sure of terminology) and 9 to be removed from the list. I hit a number on my new phone and thought I pushed 1, but may have pushed 4. It disconnected me immediately. I tried calling the number back but it said it was not the right number (same voice as the message, not that voice that tells you have reached a disconnected number).

We have a trip in November that is fully paid, so I'm just wondering what this could have been. I'm hoping it was nothing since I obviously messed up and didn't get to find out what it was. Anyone else had this experience with a phone call from Disney? BTW....the phone said it was a call from Orlando.

I noticed another thread today that someone posted they had gotten a call from a 407 area code with an automated message about a Disney offer. She said it was some ridiculous thing like 90% off so she thought it was a scam. It came up on her caller id as WDW Cellular or something like that. I will see if I can find the thread.

If you still have the number in your caller ID google it. It may pop up as a sales promo/scam.

You have already made me feel better! I hated the thought that I might have missed out on some fantastic offer. I was thinking it might be something to do with fast passes, but I did find another thread that said they are sending emails for that. Well, just glad I didn't screw up and miss out on something great! :)

I'd keep an eye on your phone bill too. There used to be scams that if you press 1, it authorizes a long distance charge. Now it's probably just sales calls. Reputable companies never use that tactic.

I'm sure it was a total scam. I just hung up. Pretty scuzzy of them -- wonder how they got the names/numbers of Disney customers??

If this happened to me I would have called Disney's reservations number and asked if they knew anything about it. If it really was Disney maybe you have a PIN attached to your name, reservations would be able to find that.

:thumbsup2 yes, yes, yes, wonderful idea :thumbsup2

My gut says it was probably a bogus call, but I really like what Epcot Bill suggested, I would do that tomorrow, then let us all know how it turned out. :goodvibes

I definitely agree that you should call Disney and check to see if you have a PIN. I always love a good excuse to call and ask if I have a PIN!

I agree with the PPs...sounds like a scam. We get that phone call almost once a month. It starts with an automated voice that says, "Let the memories begin!" Then he launches into something like "you've been selected for a special Walt Disney World vacation package." The phone number comes up as Toll free call.

They called me about 3 months out from my trip date to let us know our Crystal Palace ADR for the night I had made would not be honored, due to early park closure for Night of Joy that night. We simply rescheduled.

I don't think is this what the OP is referring to.

Robo calling is illegal an I'm sure disney has no part in that. Scam all the way .

It sounds to me like some sort of Timeshare company looking for you to sit in on a sales pitch. A lot of times, the incentive to spending 5-6 hours with the Sales rep (who are worse then used car salesmen BTW) is to give you 2 free tickets to a local Amusement Park. We did this once about 10 years ago and got 2 free tickets to Sea World. They used to give out weekend stays to their resorts if you went to all of their seminars. If you see that again, I would just ignore it. There are a ton of Timeshare companies that have a 407 area code number (I know because I get calls from them all the time) because they are based out of the Orlando/Kissimmee area.
