1. If I want to be in the 14 min mile pace group, will they be running the whole time or doing an interval? And since I haven't submitted a time and assume I will be in the last corral, how do I join that pace group?

2. How much cushion will being at the front of the last corral give me?

3. At what miles do they sweep? Oddly enough, I start slowly and speed up with each mile. It is not uncommon for me to have excruciating shin splints the whole first mile that simply melt away by mile 2 and are a distant memory by mile 3. If I can just get through the first few miles I think I will be okay.

1. Check the pace group booth (Clif?) at the expo. You can ask whether or not they do intervals or run straight through. My experience is that most pacers run straight through. They will also tell you which corrals the pacers start in and how to identify them. Unfortunately, if they are in a corral ahead of yours, you can't move up.

2. Total guess. 10 minutes? Just whatever time before the last runner/balloon ladies/official run Disney sweepers cross the start line.

3. According to the website, they can sweep at any time a runner falls above the 16mm pace. There are varying stories on when people have been swept along the course. Just keep track of your time and stay as close to that as you can for those first few miles. Aren't shin splints the worse? Good thing your pain goes away once you've warmed up.

Have a great race! :)

Just about two minutes (based off a corral of roughly 2,000 runners)

Have you tried KT tape or compression sleeves for you shin splints? Both have done wonders for me!

This sounds about right. :thumbsup2 It just seems to take forever when you are waiting for your own corral to start.
