PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

See, here's the thing...

If it has caramel, I want it. If it has oozy warm caramel dripping off it, I want it even more! I don't care how boring the cake is or how sweet the icing is, you had me at caramel.

Given that Germany is approximately half way between the margaritas in Mexico and my GG in France, I'm thinking by the time I get to Germany, I'll be too sloshed to remember this beauty. I'm gonna try tho. :cool2:

They have cupcakes with caramel?! How did I miss that when I was studying the display case, trying to choose what to get?!

My thoughts are you had me LOL'ing over the fact you found your DH when googling pictures! That's awesome!!

I like the idea of the salted chocolate caramel better than I like the thought of this cupcake. Although I do think the cupcake itself looks good. So.........

I'd be game!

I think even if it's "just" a chocolate or vanilla cupcake, adding the caramel will make it good and eating in the World Showcase will make it amazing. ;)

So...does this mean crawl includes Epcot...feeling like I might miss too much.

Amy...no the crawl is going to be to the monorail resorts plus WL...possibly a stop into BW before Beaches & Cream and Jellyrolls on Sunday night!

Why is my mouth puckering at your combination listed here?

There is also a caramel corn cupcake...but I am not finding if they are still there...

It made me laugh...from our TR on the DIS!

Great minds...

Kewl-- thinking of hookup at GF or WL...

Good...we need a hookup with you!

I would love to have a cupcake with you ladies! I have dining reservations that night, but maybe I can catch you somewhere!

Can I PM someone my cell #? I'd love to meet up for some of the crawl but I will be with my family and have to 'break away' for a bit. We are at WL so hopefully I can make that work!

I'm getting excited cause this week I break into Double Digits!! :cool1:

Motivation Monday

Well it is NOT HARD NOT TO BE MOTIVATED when this day of your trip planning comes around…what is today?

DOUBLE DIGIT DANCE DAY

So let’s get motivated with a few princess dances….

As for my running last week…I managed 1 long run, 1 short run (which I only made it 1 mile before limping off in frustration with my shins) and 2 walks. I need to do better. Cammy and I completed a virtual run (race report later) which was my long run of the week…6 something miles (GPS was not liking where we were running at so I think we were closer to 7 miles than 6 miles). How did your training go?

I am a little worried about this week...the first MAJOR COLD FRONT is sweeping the Midwest and I am not sure how this is all going to play out with training outside. I guess I will be stuck on elliptical or maybe I will finally get my hiney to the gym!

I hope you ladies can catch us on the crawl...the more cupcakes sharing cupcakes the better. You can PM me and I will send you my cell number so you can text your location and we can text ours. Right now we are planning about starting around 2 pm at the POLY, then head to GF, CONT, WL...then some of us have dinner reservations at various places (we all have our celebration dinners) and then we are going to JellyRolls until we die (probably passing out is a better word)!

I was so excited this past weekend because I ran my first post-injury race! It was just 2 miles (and felt like a LOT more to my legs!) but it was great to be back out there. My running group is starting a half marathon training group on 12/14 and I hope to be back up to 4-5 miles at that point...I still have a while to go with PT and need to strengthen my legs up a lot more, but forward progress feels great :) all I need is faith, trust, and a little pixie dust, right? :cool1:

Race Report
HITS Oklahoma City-10K
Sunday, October 12, 2014

Of all the non-Disney Races that I have ran, the HITS OKC was the one that I was looking forward to the most because I was not going to have to run this alone…DISmeet/race! My 2 DIS Oklahoma neighbors and I decided this would be a great race together, plus we could get in a 10K to submit for time for PHM. The theme for this race should have been “WHAT?” It started off with a special shirt for the race but somehow the first one sent ended up being one about Running for Wine?! WHAT? Not for this race, although a good reason to run! The lady that I ordered from sent out the correct one, which should have arrived on time because on Thursday prior to the race it had arrived in my town and then on Friday the tracking showed that it had been sent to another town 2 hours away...WHAT?! Sad that I did not get to wear my new shirt (which I will share another time), I ended up going with my favorite running shirt. On Saturday, I picked up…

Priorities but they did not have the normal Saturday flavor that I wanted to get, WHAT? Saturday afternoon, Debra messaged that she now she still was not feeling good and would not be making the race or the trip…WHAT? I was very broken hearted about not having her along! She lives 2 hours away and we have yet to meet up after almost 2 years into our Disney/Running Friendship! But I know we have a couple more races planned for meet ups and of course PHM so all it good…It was so easy to get up EARLY Sunday morning to make my way to OKC, which for me is about a 4 hour drive, because I was a bundle of nervous excitement. Of course I had to stop off for both some car and prerace fueling long before the sun would appear…

Yum…my standard prerace fuel…chai tea latte and oatmeal! Not long I found myself on the open highway with my new 10K Running Playlist going and thank goodness for Siri…a little hands free texting with Amy who was getting up and around to make her drive to meet me in OKC (for her 2 hours). As I made my way down the road, I thought about the last 4 years of my friendship with Amy. We met on the DIS when we both were planning Christmas trips for 2010 and for me it was like an instant bond. It just clicked between the 2 of us, I think because we lead pretty similar lives, share the same humor and outlook on the things that happen in life. We had planned on running ToT in 2013 together, but life happened and got in the way of our Disney Trip together…but she was still by my side in spirit through the whole event! The drive east is pretty uneventful…

There is the North American’s largest cross (which I passed as at dawn), then the state line (potty break time), Debra’s hometown (which I waved and passed through feeling a little sad…

messaging her that I would pick her up if she felt well enough to ride along)…all with my nerves building so much that I had to find something to calm my nerves…

I texted Amy, who told me that she had dibs on the chocolate one and it better be left by the time she got the race. I am not sure what I was expecting when I pulled into Remington Race Track Park, but what I found was not what I was expecting. WHAT? For some reason I had in my mind a HUGE race…after all this was going to be a full marathon, ½ marathon, 10K, 5K and 1 mile run so you would expect LOTS OF CARS. Wrong, the parking lot was pretty empty as I drove though looking where to go. I spotted a race start inflatable arch and knew I was going in the right direction but still I was a little confused because I expected a run expo (cause they put out a really nice race book and it had some coupons and mention of a race expo) and all I saw was a few porta potties and a couple of awnings.

I parked and headed towards the awnings and found the table to pick up my race packet (bib, t-shirt, a couple of fliers, and a little travel stick of deodorant for MEN). WHAT?

I must say that I love this shirt...so soft and I like the design! I have worn it quite a few times now on runs. Now I was nervous…I thought I was going to be hidden among the crowd when I ran and it was looking like my turtle speed was going to be front and center for this race…and considering I had not run a lot in the last month thanks to my never ending shin issues, I was in TROUBLE. I received a text from Amy that she is about 10 minutes out and wanted to know where I was…of course I truthfully answered her my current location…inside the cleanest of the 3 porta-potties (and let me tell you they were NASTY). I headed back towards my car when I got the text that she had just pulled in so I started scanning the sparsely populated parking lot and found her climbing out of her car. You would think that this would be awkward meeting for the first time, but from the quick hug you would think that we see each other on a daily basis because it was instant chatter about normal every day stuff. We walked over to the tent and picked up Amy’s bib and then tried to decide what to do with ourselves for the next 2 hours since we had arrived so early expecting a HUGE Race. So what do a couple of girls do…walk down the hill to the race track casino and play a little slots. I feel like I need to make a little disclaimer here, we decided to walk down there for a clean bathroom and we just happen to head upstairs to look around which just happens to be a casino (yep, that’s my story and I am sticking to it). Another disclaimer…I have watched other people play slots 1 other time and tried a little but gave up because I just did not understand what was happening. Amy had a couple of dollars and all I had was a $20 with me which ended up in the machine and off we were killing the wait time in the best air possible, ROFL. You should have seen us in our running apparel walking around trying to figure out which machines to play on a Sunday morning…I am sure we were a sight to the regulars.

We chatted, we played, we cashed out…both of us as winners. For someone who just pushes the button to play and has no clue what is going on…I made $35.05 on the slots…

as we walked across the parking lot back to the race start I prayed that I had some luck left for the run because I had a feeling I was going to need it. As we waited, we talked about how we were going to run this race and put together a game plan…what we did not know that within a mile that entire game plan was going to change. The crowd had grown a little more while we were taking our bathroom break, but not much at the start of the 10K I would say there was less than 75 people. WHAT? Ugh, not a good thing when you are to 40+ girls who are out just to survive and get a corral time. But we would make the best of it until we came face to face 1 mile in to the HILLIEST course I have ever seen. WHAT? Amy being a native from Oklahoma was a little stunned too, WE BOTH THOUGHT Oklahoma was flat…WRONG! We tried to get into sync with our intervals but the hills were proving to be killers and we started running down as much as we could and then walking up. The great thing was that we had a group of walkers behind us, so no matter what happened we would not be last! After about 3 miles Amy sent me on ahead of her as at this point for her it became just to finish the race and she knew I needed to push myself a little harder. I felt really awful leaving her, but I knew that she had to work out this course and distance on her own…plus a mile into it we knew that we would NOT being using this 10K for our proof of time…thank goodness we had another 10K picked out in November.

Look Amy brought her own cheering section...

Running along Route 66...

Only 1 of about 10 hills on this course...and this one was not the worst of them!

I finished the 10K in a decent time considering the hills, talking much of the first 3 miles, and not being where I wanted to be in my training at this time. After I finished, I went back and walked the course until I met up with Amy who was about a mile behind me and then walked and cheered her on to the finish. She made it…her first long race and under the time that she had set for herself despite the course from H***. I was so proud of her for sticking it out and finishing. We sat around recovering as awards where being handed out…the finisher medals had been misplaced and would be mailed out later. We kept searching for the official race times posted, but never found them so instead we headed back to the cars for our little celebration in the parking lot…before saying goodbye and making our drives back home.

This picture makes me laugh...I am short and Amy is tall so trying to get a selfie of the 2 of us was quite entertaining! The drive home was interesting...I ran into a huge rain and wind storm...WHAT, this was not in the forecast, not fun at all...

On a side note a few days later, race results were posted and apparently Debra ran the race for me as her name was posted instead of mine (even though they called my name out when I crossed the finish line) and I ended up coming in 2nd for my age group and had an award. Amy was able to get the name thing straightened out for me and then I emailed about my award being sent to me. They wanted me to pay $10 for it to be shipped to me. WHAT? I protested that I sat there for the awards and my name was never called (duh, cause I was Debra according to them but then again I never heard her name either) and that I should not have to pay to get my award since it was their fault my name was never called…they did not back down and quoted from their run book that all awards not picked up on the day of the race were subject to a shipping fee. I again protested that I could not pick it up because there were no official race results posted and that how would I know that I won if they did not announce my name. Needless to say, they still have the award cause I aint payin! Plus it seems really weird to get a 2nd place plaque when there were only 3 people in my age division (and the person in 3rd was a walker). LOL.

The finisher medal came in the mail this week, love the OK theme. I am so sad Debra missed out on the fun...

Not my best run ever, but my FAVORITE RUN SO FAR BECAUSE did this race with my FRIEND, Amy…who has been a true friend to me through thick and thin the last 4 ½ years! I am not a trusting person when it comes to relationships, but she has shown me more than one time what a TRUE FRIEND is. She is one amazing lady and I am so proud she is my evil stepsister from another mother AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GET INTO TROUBLE WITH HER DURING THE PHM...with DEBRA keeping a tight rein on us as we stalk dark alley ways and hotel corridors looking to create nervous havoc!

YAY...Cammy is finally starting to add miles after her tendon surgery in August. She did her longest run yet almost 7 miles. You will bounce back...faith, trust, pixies dust and A LOT OF CUPCAKES!

I think it is so cool that you have a running group...I am so shy about my running and intervals that I don't think I could train with a group of people. It was hard enough letting Cammy go with me this weekend on a long run. I was worried the whole time I was slowing her down...

I don't know where I'd be without my group! The nice thing is that we have a wide range of abilities- from beginners to marathoners- so I can almost always find someone running at the same pace as me! Our two coaches are amazing and they'll help make a training plan for Disney that takes my injury into account so that I don't overdo it! I was scared to join them at first because I wasn't "good" at running and I was embarrassed about it, but after the first group I went to I was hooked :) My only weird "issue" with it is that I hate talking when I'm running...but I just find a talker to run with, so that I can listen! Works out perfectly!

momabaarjo, I am from Oklahoma and I am trying to figure out where in the world this hilly course was!
