I just joined WISH today, and I am really excited!! I have been trying tons of different diets, but I just can't find one that I can stick to. I think my biggest eating challenge is convienence. I will eat whatever is available to me right now. If that is carrot sticks and celery, great, but it is usually chips and crackers, not so great. I also don't have a really good plan as far as what kind of diet I want to be on. I have been researching the ABS diet and I like it the best so far. I am trying to get my DH2B to diet with me.

Another obsticle for me is the cold weather. I don't have a treadmill, or access to a gym, so I am basically stuck. I did TIVO some exercise shows that I haven't gotten around to doing yet. :guilty:

My basic game plan is to eat breakfast everyday (something I don't do) and to slim down my lunch. I have a bad habit of eating leftovers, not just a little, all of them!

I need to find some healthy recipes, I love to cook and my DH2B will eat whatever I put in front of him, so it makes it easy for me. He is really great that way. He has commented on a few of things I have made, but usually he just loads it up with hot sauce and eats it anyway!

SO here is my plan... Find a diet plan that I can stick to and that allows for "slipping." (not Atkins) Drink 8 glasses of water a day. Find someway to excersize everyday whether it is doing an exercise video or walking around the mall or lifting weights. Cut out the things that I know I don't need, brownies, cookies, extra cheese on everything!! ( I can turn a salad into a diet nightmare!)

I know that I need to make a lifestyle change, not just a try to lose some weight.

I also recently quit smoking (5 weeks today!!!!!) :Pinkbounc so that is one more thing that contributes to my wanting to eat more often. I know that I don't want to start smoking again, but I also don't want to gain 10 pounds either! I heard chewing on cinnamon sticks helps...

ANyway, I am psyched and ready to go, now I just need to maintain this mind set when I log off my computer. It is so much easier to type this stuff than to actully do it! :)

Here's to getting healthy!! :cheer2:

Hi jocelyn,

Welcome to the WISH journals. You've come to the right place for support.

First, congratulations on your upcoming marriage and quitting smoking. I'm a CCU nurse, and stopping smoking is the very best thing you can do for yourself.

It looks like you've got some great motivation, and I am sure you can get to your goal. As for exercise, the WATP tapes, at target, are great. They require very little space or equipment, and the choreography is EASY. (I'm not coordinated) You also might want to check out your library for cookbooks and cooking magazines. Mine carries Cooking Light.

Keep us posted and have a great weekend,
Beth

Hi Jocelyn!! Welcome! I'm Jen!

This is the most awesome, supportive place! you will love it here! Congrats on quitting smoking! Way to go!!!

I find alot of new recipies on the web! It is nice to have a variety as I know i start to slip when I get stuck in a rut!!!

Glad you are here! :cool1:

Thanks Beth and Jen!

It is nice to know that there are people out there for support!!

I had a rough weekend, we went out for dinner and I was weak. I was pretty down on myself, but then I realized that part of my problem was PMS. Tomorrow is a new day and I can do this!! I went and bought some whole wheat bread and traded that out for my white bread. (baby steps) I also didn't buy any snack stuff while at the store. I amd going to donate my "bad" foods to the local food pantry so I can get them out of my house. Good bye Townhouse crackers, goodbye Hamburger Helper, Goodbye Little Debbie!

Jocelyn

Just wanted to say hi and good luck - baby steps work! I know you will hit your goal! Congrats on the 5 weeks of no smoking! :cheer2:
Cute picture of you two as well!

Yes! One step at a time! I cna't keep the bad stuff in my house either! If it is there it tempts me!!! You are doing great! You are strong and you can do this! :cool1:

Ok, I have putting alot of deep thought into the whole idea of dieting...

It is so wierd to me that we as humans want to eat the things that are bad for us and we want to do things that are bad (drink, smoke, etc.) I wonder what it takes to reprogram yourself to look at those things as the bad things. I think 9 out of ten people would rather have a Hershey's kiss versus a carrot stick, or drink a soda instead of water. Why is that? Some cruel joke from above...really good marketing ploys...brainwashing?? And how do we go about reversing it?? I want to be able to choose the carrot stick and not think twice about it. I want to laugh as I am saying, "of course I would pick the carrot stick, who wouldn't?" So I think, for me, the first step is to "un"brainwash myself. I want to reprogram myself to make the right choices and feel good about it. Where did we go wrong? If we were never introduced to chocolate, would we feel as if we were lacking something in our lives?? I have always wondered about people that don't like the bad things, people that don't eat at fast food places, people that don't think ranch dressing is a food group. How did they become so different, and how do I change?

Here's to picking the carrot stick!!!!

Jocelyn

Hi :wave2: and welcome. Congrats on your upcoming wedding :bride: :groom:. It is also wonderful that you quit smoking. Good for you. :Pinkbounc

Hi Jocelyn,

I think that at least 1/2 of weight loss is mental. There are so many games that you can play with yourself. Like, I just spent 30 minutes on the elliptical, so I can eat that cookie. TOM can also play havoc with out resolve. You figure that out, and you'll definatley be on your way.

Keep up the good work,
Beth

Definitely mental!!! I still fight the stress / chocolate corrolation!

Those are some excellent questions, Jocelyn! I wonder if, as a parent, I am setting my children up for the same challenges. I can't say that they would pick a carrot stick over a chocolate. :( I know my dd would pick fresh raspberries over chocolate though. I guess that's something. You have given me something to think about. Thanks and Welcome to the WISH Journals!!

First of all, thanks to everyone who has replied and took the time to offer words of encouragement. Thank you so much!! It really helps to know that other people are doing the same thing and also that other people have weaknesses too! I know we can all be strong together!

So I have been working on my babysteps. I have managed to not snack as much as usual. One of my weaknesses was Dunkin Donuts because I stop there to get coffee everyday and I always get a donut. Yesterday, no donut! I am struggling with lunch options because I am a nanny during the day and I usually just eat what ever I make for the kids, (PB&J EVERY day!!) but when I get sick of those things, I want to get fast food because it is so easy for me to just stop on the way back from picking the oldest up from school at noon. I need to start packing a lunch. I always feel so rushed in the morning though. I think what I will do is just get the things together the night before and then I can just make my lunch when I get to work. I need some easy lunch ideas that will be easy for me to throw together and take with me. I thought about trying to do salads. I could just get everything in a tuperware the night before and then put my dressing on here. Also I could bake a bunch of chicken breasts and just have them precooked so I can grab one and do whatever with it (sandwich, salad, by it's self with a veggie)

Right now I am living with my DH2B, his sister and her 2 kids. It is hard to eat healthy at home because I am the only one doing it. Last night I got home from work and my roommate was making some shrimp, cheese and noodle baked dish. I didn't want to be rude and refuse, so I had a really big salad and then a small portion of the shrimp. I felt really guilty about it. I know she wouldn't be offended if I made my own food, but then I feel like the fat girl who can't sit down and eat with everyone else! In 4 months my DH2B and I are moving out and it is going to be much easier then. I will control what foods come into the house as well as what we eat for dinner.

Jocelyn

I felt the same yesterday - I had a cheese sandwich and a cookie at a friends and chinese food at my sister - we need to come up with some ideas on how to avoid these situations! I am seriously considering upping my weekly exercise as I can't seem to say no to my freinds and families food! It's either that or become a hermit!
Good for you with the doughnut btw! My weakness is cookies and chocolate...

DOn't feel guilty! Today is a new day so make it a good one! :flower:

OK, so far today has been good. I had a handful of walnuts, half a banana and a piece of chicken breast for breakfast. (I am not a traditional breakfast food person) I am going to stop at the store and get some V8. I find that when I get hungry during the day that a V8 fills me up and I get all those vitamins and stuff. Lunch is going to be more chicken and carrot sticks :) .

I had to post even though it is only one meal, just because I am finally really doing it right. The last week has been more mental preperation than anything and now today I feel like I can really do this!!

Jocelyn

YAY!!! Great Job!!! See! You are doing this!!! :cool1:

OK, I have had a great start to my diet. I am really excited and proud of myself. I had one cheat night on superbowl, but that was my cheat meal for the week. Next week it will be on sunday which is my birthday, DH2B is taking me to The Melting Pot and I know I am going to splurge a little. I will have to do some extra excercising to make up for it. I am still trying to find a good excercise video or show with hand weights. I have taped a few excercise shows on my TIVO, but nothing has really been that great yet.

SO far so good!!!!!!

I think alot of people had a cheat night with the SuperBowl...no biggie!!

Yes, you must :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc before you go to the Melting Pot, because you MUST have dessert--the yen/yang dessert is my favorite...can't remember the name, but do remember it's Dark Chocolate/White Chocolate...after all, dark chocolate is heart-friendly (but white chocolate is hips-friendly?).

:cheer2:
