I thought I'd post this separate so it doesn't get lost in the weekly thread.
With regards to hotels near start/finish of the Distance Run, I checked the race website and they list some hotels that are close.

Other hotels, nearby within walking distance to start are the Marriott Downtown 12th & Filbert ($199/nt), Courtyard by Marriott, 21 N. Juniper St. (Across from City Hall $169) and the Sheraton at 17th & Race (formerly the Wyndham) ($200).

The prices I listed were what I found on Expedia. Interestingly, the race website lists the Embassy Suites at $249. Expedia has it for $203/nt.

If I hear of any specials going on, I'll be sure to post. I WISH my house was big enough so I could play host.

If you post that you're coming to town for this race, I'll keep track of the lit and see how many we have.

Thanks for the info Terri! I am going to register later tonight and worry about the finances later!!

I was thinking of doing this one. I am doing the other one 2 weeks before in VA beach, and if I do Philly I will earn another 'beach to bell' medal!

I did the combo runs two years ago, and my dh got me the shadow box for Christmas with all three medals, both my times, and my name. I love it! Maybe I'll make it easy Christmas shopping again this year!

 Me!! :bounce: I'm doing it!! :dogdance: I am!! :yay: Me!!:cheer2:

I'm doing it too! I signed up last week. I'm very excited - it will be my first half, and it looks like a great race. My brother is going to do it with me as well, which should be a lot of fun. He's run about 4 marathons in his life, but it has been MANY years and I'm happy to support him getting back into it.

I'm a lifelong Philly native and happy to give advice to those of you coming to my hometown!

I don't know if I'm allowed to say this here (mods?), but I am also a travel agent, so I'll keep my eye peeled for good deals and let you all know.

Chad & I are in! As well as my friend Kristi and her hubby Rob. They live in Doylestown, PA. It will be Kristi's first race. Rob has always been a runner, just not sure if he's done races or what ones previously.

I'll have to check out Embassy Suites on expedia....this is the hotel I was leaning towards since we are probably bringing Zack and a babysitter along with us.

Wow! Lots of WISHers coming in from out of town.

This run is special for me as it was my first years ago and it is so much fun and well organized!

I stayed at the courtyard marriot in early december (the one across from city hall) and it was very nice and right across the street form the subway station. very convenient. plus walking distance to lots of shopping and nice restaurants and independence hall etc.

that said---my DH is a very light sleeper. me--not so much after living in pittsburgh and philly etc. I can sleep through anything. he had problems with the sirins and traffic noises of the square from that location. even though we were on an upper floor. me--I never heard them.

they did have a weekend romance package that was only $20 more than the room price which included a full bottle of champagne (not one of those mini bottles), chocolates and breakfast for 2 (which was very good!! loved the cheese blintzes)

Karen and I are officially registered. This one is a freebie for me since a won a free entry from a drawing I signed up for at the Disney Expo. Free is good!!!!!!

Kristi....

Let us know if you find something....I was really surprised at how expensive the hotels were, more than Chicago's last year. Ouch!! I won't have a car though, so it has to be something right there, I guess you pay for the convenience!

This will be awesome!

For anyone that hasn't registered yet & needs it.....In with all the crap I picked up at the WDW Expo, I found a discount code for the Philly Distance Run. It is for $10 off & expires June 15, 2008. Code is: PDRBUCK

Awesome - thank you!!!

Suuurrre, Karen..NOW you find it!!! :lmao:

This is going to be tons of fun!! We've got Philly cheesesteaks down for one meal..where do we carb load?? :goodvibes

I'm inching closer to joining y'all. I just got my fall schedule for school and it looks like I'll be teaching on T & THs only so I can use Fridays and Mondays as traveling days.

Now, I'll just have to check my budget! :scared:

There are some awesome Italian restaurants in the Italian Market area. Yum!:)

For people looking for a less expensive hotel, there is a Comfort Inn on Columbus Blvd that has an internet rate of $179/night. It is not walking distance, but would be a relatively inexpensive cab ride to the race start. Parking, unfortunately, is still $21 a night.
