I’ve been to various baseball games with dollar promotions. The Oakland A’s used to have $2 tickets for (most) Wednesday night games, as well as dollar hot dogs. Also went to a minor league game once where I didn't really know much about the promotion. Sat for $5 in the outfield lawn section. They also had $1 ice cream bars. I'm not sure if those prices were available in at normal windows along the concourse, but they were sold by wandering vendors out of insulated carriers, so that made it a bit easier.

Apparently in Philadephia they had issues with people throwing them on the field at opposing players, in addition to ridiculous lines of people waiting to buy them, thus blocking the concourses. They're switching to BOGO with a limit of two.

The Dollar Dogs were shot into the stands by the Phillie Phanatic (team mascot) with a cannon. It caused a lot of fights and stuff. Philly fans.

Go to the right parts of Philly and it reminds me Jackie Gleason’s Brooklyn and the Bronx of Joe DiMaggio’s days.

There are not many places in the world where people can afford to throw meat at others.

The sausages can be pretty cheap at a dollar store. I've never been to a baseball game where I wasn't allowed to bring in my own food, although I don't think I ever brought cold hot dogs.

I've heard of people bringing in food to throw at sporting events. I suppose the worst would have been frozen fruit - especially oranges.

I used to bring in lots of stuff and as a regular I would share what I had. Stuff like Mexican style grilled chicken or Popeyes, if they had some sort of 8-12 piece special. Cost about as much as food in the stadium for one, and that could feed 3-4 people.

Yea as a Phillies fan this is a bummer. Taking my family of 6 to a game can break the budget and dollar dog night was one of the only things that helped make it affordable to eat in the park. I don't quite understand how the long lines blocking the concourse is the consumers fault though. Shouldn't the hot dog vendors have made special accommodations for dollar dog night so this didn't happen?

But the hot dog throwing is 100% on some idiot fans. We went to a game last year and yes people got out of hand. Sections were lobbing hot dogs back and forth at each other and then later some people threw their dogs into the outfield. The game that was worse than this was a few weeks before we were there. I think there was even a hot dog wave going around the stadium. I saw the videos on YouTube and it was bad. I just wish the media wouldn't make it sound like this has only ever happened in Philadelphia, when I'm sure it happens elsewhere.

There was the infamous 10 cent beer night in Cleveland. That game was forfeited to the visiting team.

I mentioned going to a minor league game where the promotion was available from wandering vendors. That could make things a lot of easier. However, I'm not sure how the vendors might like it other than fans might be inclined to throw in tips when they're getting their hot dogs cheap.

At least hot dogs are softer than snowballs. 😉

Then again, I’m a Cleveland fan - home of “bottlegate”

10 cent beer night resulted in a forfeit. I've heard some places that more beer went on the field than into people, but certainly the limit of 6 didn't help with enough people being drunk.

Ten-cent beer night went horribly awry as drunken Cleveland fans attacked Texas outfielder Jeff Burroughs and the umpires. Umpires declared a forfeit win by Texas over Cleveland

Our Minor League baseball team uses a hot dog cannon. I was at one game where the hot dog wasn't securely wrapped, so they fired it and showered a large section of fans with hot dog shrapnel.

The ball parks in Florida seem to be more strict about outside food. I went to a Phillies spring training game last year and the stadium doesn't allow outside food. Same when I went to see the Phillies play against the Rays at Tropicana Field also last year, only 1 sealed water bottle per person was allowed. I was kind of surprised since I am used to bringing in my own food to games.
