Lou - I had no idea that you were signed up for NYC, too. Or did I?? Looking for another fall marathon? I think Colleen has a bib# for you for this years SOLD OUT MCM in Oct.:rolleyes1 ....She won't charge you too big of a premium for this much sought after entry!! Great race, you gotta run it!

That stinks about MCM. I guess I better register for Philly soon or I won't have any marathons on my schedule. I did see Baltimore and Richmond out there. I'm not a huge Baltimore fan but I do love Camden Yards and wouldn't mind a race that begins and ends there. Atlantic City is my last resort. I don't see that selling out.

I'm back, but I'm playing major catch-up at work, so I'll have to wait a bit to catch up on here. And I will write a real race report (unlike the Minnie report I promised :rolleyes1 )

As of yesterday, I officially feel fine. I have also somewhat forgotten how miserable I was for the last few miles of the marathon and am thinking that I might not want to wait until Philly to run my next one . . . However, my race schedule does look a little full. In addition to a number of impulse buys at the RnR expo, I also had impulse race registration for the Philly Distance Run. It was only $35 - how could I resist?

Lou - I saw your post about MCM. MCM allows legal bib transfers, so you can get a bib from someone that doesn't want to run (such as Colleen) and have it transfered and run under your own name. There is a board on the MCM site where people post about transfers (although I don't think the transfer period has started yet).

Colleen - If you are not interested in running MCM let me know. I would be interested in buying your bib/registration.

I MAY still run it. It all depends on the kids swim meet schedule in the Fall. There is a great meet in Columbia, SC that I want to kids to swim and it may be on that weekend. I will try and find out from the coach if the date is set yet. If it is that weekend, the bib is yours.

It will be either MCM and Philly OR Philly and Disney this year....not sure, I want to get 2 marathons in on one training cycle.

Hey Everyone: So I just had a meeting about my new job and they recommended another conference I should go to once my new job starts. It's Nov 20-23 in Cincinnati, OH. Uuuuum, I was thinking of doing something else Nov 23rd. Crap.

Lou- Good luck finding a MCM bib. I was lucky last year. The MCM was sold out, but Jeff Galloway's team had some bibs available in the summer (might have been July or August). I got one of theirs after the marathon was already sold out for maybe $10 more than the normal registration fee. So keep your eyes out, there maybe some available.

Colleen- Congrats on being rejected from the NYM. Wow, last day of school. New York gets out so late. We're not out until June 24th or something like that.

Welcome back Cindy- I'm glad you're feeling better after your marathon. Again, WTG on the PR! :thumbsup2

Jodi- Congrats to you too on your rejection from the NYM. I need to get my name in the lottery for 2009 too. Especially if you are guaranteed to be there. I still need to give you a Pirates and Princess Party report. Great job on your 4 mile tempoyucky run. My Garmin died on me yesterday, and I didn't have it when I ran. I can turn it on, but none of the other buttons are registering. What 1/2 are you doing in July?

Howard- I remembered you used to live in New Kensington, but I forgot about Oakmont. I remember exchanging messages with you before that I grew up right next door in Plum. [Lou- Part of Oakmont is actually in Plum.] I was still in the Pittsburgh area when the Penguins won their 2 cups - before I moved to Michigan. I was in the Detroit area at the University of Michigan for their Stanley Cup wins too, and became a fan of theirs too. So I was very excited for the Pittsburgh/Detroit Stanley Cup matchup. I found myself rooting for the hometown team the Penguins, and I really wanted it to go to a game 7. But I'm not disapointed at all that Detroit won. They looked like the better team. Great job on your run. Give my best to Cam.

Hello out there Mike

Where's Chester?

Colleen - No problem. Just keep me in mind if you decide not to run MCM because I am interested. Just give me some notice because I am trying to figure out what to train for. I have an 18-mile run in Long Beach Island on 10/19 that I am considering but would skip it if I run MCM. I used the LBI run to train for Philly last year.

Whoa, Lou- we posted at the exact same time. Check out my post. I was able to get into the MCM last year way after it sold out.

Dave: My family moved around a lot when I was a kid. I lived in Rural Ridge for a short while as a baby, then Verona, then Oakmont where I started kindergarten and continued at Riverview through the middle of 9th grade (1977). That is when I moved to New Kensington and finished out high school at Valley HS (Class of 1981). I usually travel through Plum on my way home to visit my Mom in New Kensington.

As far as the Stanley Cup goes... I am glad a better team beat us, to lose to a team that got lucky would be really terrible. There is always next year!

I will pass along your hello to Cam.

Take Care!

Jodi- Congrats to you too on your rejection from the NYM. I need to get my name in the lottery for 2009 too. Especially if you are guaranteed to be there.

Dave great! I am going to enter DH's name in the lottery next year too!

Jodi, I hope you have room for all of us.

Whoa!! Go away for a little while and ya'll fill up a couple of pages!

We had a wicked storm whip through yesterday afternoon and lost power for almost exactly 24 hours. Somewhat inconvenient, but we only lost a bag of chicken nuggets from the freezer and had to cook up a bunch of thawing salmon and tilapia once the power came on. Anyone want a fish sandwich?

Dodo - Kind of fun running without the Garmin once in a while isn't it? Glad the ankle is better. Sorry you're missing your baby.

As for Runner's World Smart Coach: I really like the distances and spacing of the running days. The prescribed pace for the tempo runs and speedwork seem to be pretty close too but I just couldn't bring myself to run as slow as they say for the easy runs (but it's nice to know I could run that slow if I wanted and still be "on the plan":thumbsup2 ). I'm going to use it again for the fall.

Colleen - It's nice to see you accepting rejection so well.

If you're only picking two races for the fall/winter, my vote is Philly and WDW (especially if you can unload your bib on some sucker... I mean give Lou your number).

Lou - MCM was a great race. I'm unofficially looking for something earlier in the fall too. Baltimore is a possibility, maybe Akron OH (free shoes!). It's tough though for a late Sept, early Oct race because I will loose most of August for training due to vacations (tough life, I know). We'll see, though.

Howard - Everything will be just fine as long as you don't start waving the Terrible Towel around here. It's tough enough when SteveOH and Dave start with the Steeler talk. We don't need one more.

Cindy - Good to hear you're back home, safe and sound, feeling better, and suffering from post-race amnesia. Darn good stuff, that amnesia!

Tell the boss-man to shove it. You've got a race report to post!

Dave - No trips in late November unless they want to send you to Philly! Maybe instead of a trip they could spend the money on a new Garmin for you::yes:: .

Yeah, where is Chester?

Hey to Sara and Chick Pea Steve.

No running for me today but I may go for a few miles tomorrow AM if I can find my asbestos running shorts since it's about "surface of the sun" hot around here right now:furious: .

Colleen

Mike, why is your vote for Philly and WDW? Didn't you like MCM? Will I get my butt kicked in D.C.?

Tonight's numbers:

Miles: 3
Time: 28:25
Pace: 9:28

Mike: I lived in Pittsburgh when the Terrible Towel was invented. I may have been diapered with it at some point, I don't know. The Steelers will always be my team... SteveOH and Dave are good people.

TGIF:cool1: !

Coming out from under my rock to say:wave2:

Colleen & Jodi - Glad to see no one's taking the rejection badly for NYC! I will also enter the lottery next year:yay: and take my chances. Is Bruce ready for a DIS BOTS invasion?!

Mike - Sorry it's so darn hot in your neck of the woods as well:furious: . If I wanted 90+ degree temps I'd surely move to WDW. On the bright side, my pool should be bathwater warm for DD's 7th birthday party next weekend:yay: . Good luck on finding the tissue weight shorts:) .

HummuSteve - :listen: Quick question for you - can you make anything of my leg never hurting when I wear heelspopcorn::? Perhaps 3 inch running shoes would fix me up quick:thumbsup2 .

Howard - Are you still basking in the post-graduate afterglow:worship: ? I hope your weekend far exceeded your expectations and I'm sure you're glad the long hours of study are behind you. More time for running:banana: .

Lou - Good luck on MCM or finding another fall marathon. I think MCM rocked but my opinion is mostly based on the scenery:bitelip: :rotfl: and not the course per se.

Dave - I think it goes without saying that if you ditch us for Philly you're gonna SO be banned from this thread::yes:: . Are you planning for WDW'09?! When exactly is your new job startingpopcorn:: .

Cindy - So glad you're feeling better and best of luck catching up on the job so you can come hang with us again:hippie: . Congrats on registering for the Philly Distance Run:yay: .

I don't want to jinx myself but I notice a distinct change in the way my knee/leg feels for the better :worship: - Thank You Jesus!!! I got off the Medrol Wednesday and I started the Naprosyn yesterday. I also walked 6 miles (3 in the am & 3 in the pm) and I'm still feeling fine this morning:cool1: .
Please send a little :wizard: my way because the glimmer of hope of being pain-free is definitely welcome and needed.

Happy/safe training to all this weekend and good luck surviving the heat:faint: . I can't even imagine going to WDW in a few weeks. I don't do heat well:rotfl: :lmao: DH and the DD's are probably scared already:confused3

Duuuuudes :hippie:

Sara - Pixie 'druff :wizard: and a pain free continuation dance :cool1: . Perhaps you've hit on something with splitting the runs/walks up into two for now?? ARE you going to Disney in next month?? Wish I had a pool:worried: (but not 7 y/o party coming up :rotfl: ) Bruce would FLIP @ the thought of a BOT invasion...he's so rigid...that's why EVERYONE has to enter the lottery!!:rotfl2:

Colleen - YAY for the rejects!:yay: . We'll all get in next year, you'll see ;) . Even Mike's going to come up to the "Big City" & run! BTW, you'll be running Philly & WDW, sell that dang bib to Lou already! Your kids need you @ the swim meet! We'll all stay @ my mom's house which is only about a 45 min. train ride. There's a bus right outside of Grand Central in front of the NYPublicLibrary you can catch that take you to the start in Staten Island :thumbsup2 .

Mike - Glad your power's back on, sounds like you might be needing some AC this weekend, I know we will as it's supposed to be 90+ & humid :faint: . Heat makes me violent :furious: . So you're looking for an early fall marathon, too, eh? Forget that! Don't ya'll remember the talk about how Philly was gonna be great b/c it was in the late fall, therefore avoiding all that summer training?

Glad to see you're not running so much, makes me feel better about myself  . I punched in the info for that training thingie & it seemed ridiculously easy...so I punched in....wait for it...."Hard" for my level of training :lmao: . And like you, I don't think I can run that slow, but I'll go with it!

Lou - Run MCM, you'll love it...even if the Canadian won't sell you her bib, you'll find one somewhere out there.

Dave - Clearly your potential new employer is smoking crack & doesn't realize that you'll already be at a WISH conference in Philly that weekend. ARE you going to WDW in '09? You can share a room with Colleen & Sara or something popcorn:: Doing the NYC 1/2 in July!! w/ Cindy & her husband!! :woohoo: .

Cindy - Marathon?????? What marathon:lmao: . Glad the bad memories are gone & you're ready for the next one! Are you & DH going to try & catch a show when you're in the city?? When are you arriving? :hyper:

Steve - How's the owie?

Howard - :thumbsup2 Keep up the training, dude! Nice times!

Nothing going on here. I'll CT today @ the gym or ride my bike if it clears up (rain now). Here comes the heat! :scared1:

Chester - Everyone wants to know where you are.

ARE you going to Disney in next month??
I am flying into MCO late on 7/2 and going home early 7/5. DH and the DD's are there 6/29-7/6.
Heat makes me violent :furious: .
Hence, why my DH and DD's are most likely planning their best defense now:rotfl: :lmao: . They'll probably be real happy to drop me off at the airport on the 5th::yes:: Stay cool and you know you're more than welcome to take a spin up and drop by my pool anytime:hug: .

Good Afternoon,

Mike, why is your vote for Philly and WDW? Didn't you like MCM? Will I get my butt kicked in D.C.?
Colleen - No you won't get your butt kicked at all. My voting is strictly based on wanting you to do the events I'll be at:lovestruc .

Mike: I lived in Pittsburgh when the Terrible Towel was invented. I may have been diapered with it at some point, I don't know. The Steelers will always be my team... SteveOH and Dave are good people.
A diaper!! Now that's the appropriate use for that thing. As for SteveOh and Dave being good people... Good people, yes. Just with impaired judgement. (Did I mention I grew up in Cleveland?)

Sara - Lot's of PD still coming your way. BTW, I always find my knees feel better when I wear my 3 inch heels as well:rolleyes1 .

So you're looking for an early fall marathon, too, eh? Forget that! Don't ya'll remember the talk about how Philly was gonna be great b/c it was in the late fall, therefore avoiding all that summer training?
Yes, yes, yes. I remember. Just thinking of something for a "training run" sort of thing. The end of November just seems so far away. I need a closer carrot.

Suggested pace not withstanding, did the schedule and mileage look pretty decent on Smart Coach? The one thing I'm not sure about is that I'd like to (well, not like to but probably should) incorporate some hill sprints into my program and am not sure where to add/substitute. Any ideas Noplanimus?

Take care everyone. Have a good weekend.

Hello!

Ahhhh! :scared: Gotta catch up!

First, my XT for the day: took my 3 children to Kung Fu Panda tonight; I loved it (you can't beat Jack Black voicing a cartoon character).

Sara: Wow, you are on the ball with booking the car and rooms for WDW marathon weekend already. As to your leg feeling fine in the heels, yes, it is a "chain reaction" sort of thing: heels drastically shorten your achilles and gastroc/soleus muscle region, which (long story short) shortens everything up the line to your hips. Walking in heels can be almost like putting you leg musculature in a cast--or a perpetual shortened/protected position. When you (or Mike) walk without heels, or run, those heels that were up in the air now hit the ground, stretching everything up the line and finding the weak or "breaking point" of the original pain or discomfort. (Geez, that wasn't a very short explanation; sorry.)

Dave: You gotta bag the Nov. conference and go to Philly; we have to meet at some point.

Jodi: I'm glad you are back to getting the miles in. Do I have this correct: in for NYC Half; out for NYC Marathon, but have a spot in '09 for marathon?

Lou: Way to get the miles in. I didn't know (or maybe didn't remember) that you were doing the DL Half in August; cool! :thumbsup2 I know you are looking for a Fall race within a 5 hour drive; if you want to add 2-3 hours to that drive the Maine Marathon/Half Marathon is Oct 5--free board at my house for all Philly thread posters! :goodvibes

Colleen: Congratulations on saving $165! (Oh, I mean sorry you did not get in to NYC). And 97 degrees! Geez, we hit 73 for a brief moment last week. And as to your race schedule, run MCM, Philly, whatever--but we will see you at WDW in '09, right? ::yes::

Mike: Sorry about the power outage; thanks for sending the fish sandwiches; the family wouldn't eat them since you sent them regular mail, but I actually enjoyed them. I'm postive my extreme stomach cramps were related to entirely something else.

Howard: Again, congrats on the graduation. I'm sorry your Antarctic Non-Flying Bird Team lost the sporting ice skating contest. (Did I just give it away that I don't follow NHL very much? :confused3 )

Cindy: I am glad you have had some time and perspective since your marathon finish. I know the result was not what you had hoped for, but: A PR! :thumbsup2 A marathon finish in a new, exciting city! :thumbsup2 We learn something from each race; we keep training; we keep racing--it's what we do, right? ::yes::

Hello anyone I missed. The achilles is still slow to heal. I have started more agressive rehab this week with a projected return to running the last week of June. I was hoping to have a great bank of miles prior to ramping up for Philly; that's OK; I'll just adjust my time goals. My more important concern will turn to where we will all meet up for dinner on Sat. Nov. 22nd? :confused3
Have a great weekend all!

Greetings everyone: OK, I'm waking up and fueling up for a LR this morning. It hit 95 degrees yesterday, and I bagged my run. It was so hot I didn't want to run outside. I wanted to be able to get a LR in today, and I was concerned about dehydrating myself. I went down to the gym to run on the TM, but they were all taken up by everyone else who didn't want to run outside I guess. So I went home. Our neighborhood is having garage sales this weekend - so I decided to get ready for that by getting stuff down out of the attic. OK, that was a workout. As soon as I got into the attic I was a sweatball. I was exhausted after doing that.

OK, sorry about the all about me post, but I need to get some coffee and wake up.

Can I say something? I'm bummed about this potential Philly Marathon conflict. The conference they want me to go to is really important to my new job (which starts Sept. 1), and I want to make a good impression on them. But I don't want to miss out on racing with my friends. Uugh... as quoted once by Ursula, "Life is full of difficult choices."

Oh, on the fun side - we're committed to going on a family vacation to Disney July 11-20. Whoo hooo!!!! I'm in full bore planning mode. What fun! Unfortunately we just miss Sara and her family.

I wanted to report my training from this morning...

I went out early in temps in the 70's with VERY HIGH humidity before it got into the 90's here today. It was a tough run. Here are the results:

Miles: 7
Time: 1:11:18
Pace: 10:11

Hello to everyone! I am keeping with the program!! It isn't easy. In my first week I've logged 18 miles.

Have a great weekend!

Howard

Greetings from the surface of the sun! Seriously - It is crazy hot here. The heat index is well over 100.

I ran for the first time post-marathon this morning. I actually did the Race for the Cure. I didn't race it but ran with a friend whose mom died from breast cancer a few months ago. I was glad I got to do that with her. She's not a runner but is in good shape and we ran almost the whole 5k. The race didn't start until 8, so it was already pretty hot. I'm going to try to get up very early tomorrow and get in a longer run, maybe 8 miles?

I'm working on my race report (for the marathon). I started typing and it got really wordy so I decided to take a break.

Jodi
- I'm guessing you already have your training schedule set, but I really recommend this one http://www.runnersworld.com/article/...2006-0,00.html if you decide you don't want to use the SmartCoach. I used it for the National Half and will use it again (minus a few weeks) for NYC. I'm really happy that we all got in:cool1: Matt and I are going to get up there via some yet to be determined method of transportation on Saturday morning. I'm not sure what touristy things we will do, but Matt has never been to NYC before, so we'll probably spend sometime in Central Park and I'm sure Matt will want to go to some art museums (not really my thing, but I know he really likes it so I'll go). We'll have to make some plans to meet up! We're staying at the Marriott near the finish of the race.

Colleen - you should definitely do WDW instead of MCM. It will be fun for us all to do Philly and then WDW so close together. We can have a competition as to who can do the least training between events:lmao:

Dave
- If you can't make it to Philly because of work, then you'll just have to come to Disney in January.

Mike, Lou, and anyone else considering adding another early fall marathon. I'm seriously thinking about Baltimore. Although I shouldn't, that would give me 4 races in 4 weeks (PDR, Everest thingy, Army Ten-Miler, Baltimore). That's crazy right? Someone talk some sense into me.

Sara
- :wizard: Here's hoping you continue to feel better!

Howard - sounds like you have jumped right into the training:thumbsup2

Steve - Sorry to hear that the achilles is still giving you problems.

Chester
- I hope all is well with you!
