I am planning to ask my doctor to prescribe this for me when I go see her in a couple of days. If you have taken it, please tell me what your experience was. Did it work? What were the side effects you experienced? Would you take it again? Any other comments re this medication would be appreciated also.

Please don't give me a hard time about taking a diet pill. I am just seeking information about this particular medication, not opinions about diet pills in general.

Thanks!

Loved this drug!

Had tons of energy, never tired, never hungry. Completely focused - I swear I got a promotion from this drug. Felt like I could accomplish anything.

Well these pills do work, they did for me but I'm one of those crazy people who's heart it keep speeding up so I had to quit taking them...:rolleyes1

I took them, and have had success. High energy, no appetite...however the pills did race my heart and that scared me so I stopped taking them.

I was thinking of trying again but my doctor won't prescribe them anymore...not sure why.

I took them many years ago and had great success! Can't find a doctor to prescribe them for me any more. :sad2:

Thanks for the info. I don't know whether my dr will prescribe them or not. I have two friends taking them, one of whom has less weight to lose than I (about 30 lbs), and both have had great success.

My Dr. put me on it a couple months ago. (Without my asking) I have to go for checkups/weighi ins every 6 weeks. I must lose 4 lbs each 6 weeks for her to keep me on it.I had been on it several years ago and lost alot of weight. There are some side effects. Sometimes I feel a little jittery, and my heart rate increases. As long as your heart is healthy, that's ok. This is how your body burns fat when you exercise. I take the tablets. They are shaped in such a way that I can easily break them in half. I take half in the morning, and half in the afternoon. You don't want to take it too late in the afternoon, or you will have trouble sleeping. I go for my first checkup/weigh in tomorrow. I'm hoping to see a good loss. Good luck to you. Please come back and let us know if you get them or not.

I have taken them in the past. They worked great for me...could have cared less if I ate each day or not. I have a lot of energy as well.
I did loose a lot of weight however it all came back...:sad2:
I wanted to take it again but my current dr. will not prescribe it to me.

Just remember...and this is not a lecture...its not a cure...do as I DIDN'T and what you do eat...learn to eat better.

Good luck!!

We took these pills for weight loss years ago. We did both lose weight on them.

The downside, I developed dilated cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure and I had emergency surgery for ventricular tachycardia at Loyola.

Mike's first symptom was sudden death. My husband passed away at age 50 from a massive heart attack.

Please don't think it can never happen to you....

I'm taking it now , I have lost 30 lbs but now holding so going off for a few weeks to see if I can jump start my weight lost again.. ( in Tn they have weight loss center so you see a nurse practitioner )

Oh my gosh, that's horrible! I am so sorry to hear that. I am so sorry for your loss. Was this Phen-Fen or the reformulated Phentermine?

You experience sounds exactly the same as mine. I loved them and would go on them again in a heartbeat. The only side effect I had was dry mouth. I had to have a stopped up saliva gland on my tongue removed, they said it possibly could have been from the dry mouth.

I also wish I could have learned better and stuck with eating healthy after I got off them.

Yes, it can happen without warning to anyone. That's what numerous doctors have tried to warn me about. The doctor who prescribed these for me many years ago was not a doctor with a sterling reputation, but at the time I was young and *foolish* enough to not really care. Yes, I'd really love to have this drug again *if* I could be assurred it would be safe. That's just it...no one can say with certainty.

And I'm very, very sorry to read the heartbreak you experienced, Carol Ann.

Thank you - it was the Phentermine. AT the time the "Phen-Fen" had been pronounced a danger but they were reassuring us that the Phentermine was much safer.

In retrospect of course we would never have taken them. But I am ever since very very skeptical of any diet drug or aid. I struggle with weight issues, but try to eat healthy and watch myself. I go for periodic heart testing and visits, which show I am holding my own. Just an issue with the increasing and rapid heartrate again the last time. That is what sent me into the v-tach before so I need to watch it.

Anyway, I saw this thread and had to share my story. Had I read someone else's story I may have stopped them and prevented the tragedy.

Carol--I am so sorry for your loss and your experience. I am making an appt with a dietician clinic that also has a physician component and part of their program is prescribing Phenteremine. I see now I need to look into it further.

Be careful if they prescribe a diuretic with it also (a pill to help with water retention) as these can cause kidney stones.....I learned the hard way....
