Phase Closure at MK! Today, 12-31-18

I’m in Magic Kingdom now. I really don’t think the crowds are bad. It’s my first time for NYE and I was expecting madness but we haven’t even had trouble walking around. The wait times are crazy, but we are just doing our fast passes

Just left Epcot. They weren't letting anyone on the monorail from Epcot to Magic Kingdom. Crowds are building fast at Epcot. Nemo was over an hour wait!

I am wondering how they are handling the date specific tickets for today. You bought a one day MK ticket for today as your date choice ahead of time and get to the park to be told nope we have reached capacity.

Maybe that is who is getting those $50 Disney Gift cards?

As mentioned by everyone for the past few weeks when crowds are brought up they do such a good job with crowd movement you'd never know how busy the parks are

My 10 year old son and I were in MK today from 8 AM to about 4 PM. Crowds on the streets didn’t seem that much worse than at other relatively busy times like spring break. Wait times were long, but we had FP’s as well as a DAS for him, so were able to manage the Mine Train twice in that span. Classics like Country Bears and Carousel of Progress were still an immediate next-show walk in, although the Country Bears ended up going down at around 1:30 or so (not sure how long it stayed down as we left). I have to say that the vast majority of guests and cast seemed to be in great spirits (with the exception of a couple of meltdowns by adults that I saw around the 7DMT), and we had some great conversations in line.

Left Boardwalk at 3pm. Walked through Epcot and was able to get on monorail to MK. They were scanning magic bands at the entrance and stopping most people from going through. I did see some get the gift cards. We have APs so we went right through. We are at MK now for the 2 FP we have then we are getting out. The crowds are building. I have been here when it is worse but it is getting difficult to move around. The ride lines are getting VERY long.

In Epcot - this is way more crowded than our last NYE. Unless a lot leave after first fireworks .... it could be my last.

We are eating dinner (Nine Dragons) mulling options.

Yes, I'm sure they're doing it to discourage people but I think it would be better to get to a higher phase closure being up front with people than inaccurately discouraging people from going. I feel bad for people who don't go to their ADR because they got an MDE message or read a placard saying no one was allowed in and then get charged the no show fee and find out they could have gone. That would make me furious if it happened to me. It would not encourage me to go back to Disney any time.
Well WDW already got their money and we know Disney isn't interested in repeat business like they used to be.
I too would be upset, I book a once in a lifetime trip, only to be kind of told that I can't go have dinner at a park like I planned to.
