PG- 13 movies aimed at kids really make me mad. For instance my boys love Star Wars we let them see all the old ones from the 80's and the two new ones but when the last one came out it is PG-13. I was so mad. I would not let them see it when it came out. They were dying to see it. they saw all the others and the final one gives a lot of answers.

I realize that SW is not just for kids but all the happy meal toys and other toys ARE aimed at the little kids. That makes them want to see it even more.

Either tone it down so kids can see it or don't promote it to kids.
I totally agree!

I'm going to watch Star Wars Episode III first and probably just note where the parts are I don't want him to see and then skip over them when we watch it together.

Thanks for all your opinions.

Hmmmmmm I am beginning to wonder if I should have let DS5 go 3 times to see Star Wars episode III.... My DH and DS's dad assured me it was okay for him to see even though it was PG-13 (I haven't seen it)
I think I should start to see the movies first.......

My DH watched it yesterday and said we should definitely skip past some parts and he isn't usually the one to say stuff like that. Just reading some comments on this thread make me think I might be a little upset watching some of it.

BTW, my son's name is Brendan.

I voted "yes", but I would have liked a "sometimes" choice.

I have let my 7yr old watch PG13 movies sometimes. She is very sensitive too and gets scared very easily. I ususally watch these movies first and if I don't watch it first I watch it with her with the remote in my hand in case I need to change it really fast.

I'm very particular with what my children watch on the tv.

At 11 and 12, my girls are close but there are just some movies that they don't need to see - gratuitous violence and sex are usually my sticking points. I don't mind if it's language or silly stuff like Adam Sandler - at their ages they know our feelings on swearing and they hear it all the time on the bus and in school.

When my oldest turns 13 in a few months it's going to be hard to stick with my limits but I'm going to. I'M embarrassed at some PG13 movies.

I was flipping through the stations a few months ago and came across "Hair." I hadn't seen it in so long and I know I liked it when I did. Since it was rated PG, I told my DS he should watch it with me. I thought it would be good for him to learn a little about the hippy lifestyle from that era.

Little did I think that movies would have been rated far more leniently in th 70's. I made him look in my face when Beverly D'Angelo stripped to her underpants to go swimming. :rolleyes1 He was able to watch the movie again when she got dressed again.

Ratings are meaningless. Are there really guidelines, or does it just depend on the rater?

BTW, I let my kids watch some PG13 movies. If I'm leary about it, I'll watch it before I let them. As for SWIII or Harry Potter, they can watch them.
