While researching the various attractions at the Universal parks, I have noticed that some have a "PG-13" rating. I am looking at Twister and Terminator 2 in particular. The descriptions of the attractions look like they would be fine and not too scary, but then again I won't let my 8-year old watch the move Terminator at home. Are these ratings accurate? Thanks!

Twister is rated that for intensity/scariness...Terminator 2 has some guns firing, live actors shooting at the terminator 1000...etc, so its very realistic (and loud!)

We took our DD to twister, and was fine quite noisy but ok, Terminator has guns firing it dark and when the steam or fog can be a bit scary for small children

The scariest part of T2:3D is the woman in the pre-show. :rotfl2:

Seriously though, I agree with what ChrisFL said. Both of those attractions are pretty intense for an eight year old.
And, the humor at Beetlejuice and the Horror Make-Up Show can be a little raunchy; most of it will probably go right over an eight year old's head though.

my 9 year old loved twister, and can take or leave terminator, but it wasnt too intense for her.

We took my DD10 on Twister a few years ago. The preshow freaked her out - the scene where the little girl's dad gets swept away by the tornado. We had to leave.

Came back the next day and the CM let us in the back door so we could just see the twister part. She loved that.

I guess it just depends on the child.

I wish I'd noticed the ratings before I took DS7 on T2. Between the LOUD guns and actors dropping from the ceiling behind us, he was terrified.

My fault for not fully checking this out beforehand.

Twister can be scary for kids too

Good for you to research these before you go.

General rule of thumb: if you don't let your kids watch the movie, you probably shouldn't take them to the attraction based on the movie.
