I have never seen it mentioned anywhere. Are pets allowed in any of the resorts?

Some would call the Best Friends Pet Care center a resort!

I wish! I think the dog would love walking around the World Showcase.

I must say I have noticed more and more what seem to behave as pets being classified as service animals.

Of course I will give these folks the benefit of the doubt, but I have seen some various breeds (collie and chihuahua, for example) as service animals for people that did not have any obvious need for a service animal.

Walking back to our room at kidani recently, passed a family with the aforementioned collie. I had heard a dog barking from the hall around room 7952 the day before and mentioned that that must have been the dog I heard. "Our dog does not bark," was the reply I received so I can only assume there were 2 service dogs down the same hall (it was indeed a long hall).

If service dogs don't bark, how do they alert their owner to issues? Just saying. I am a dog breeder and exhibitor, and I have sold a number of dogs who were eventually trained as service animals. I every case, the ability to bark is necessary, but a service dog would NOT be barking alone in a room unattended. Their training level is too great for that to happen. Also, you should never see a service dog misbehaving in any way. If they are...They probably aren't really service trained.

I too saw a very small dog with a service vest on in the parks one day riding on the lap of his very large owner on an ECV. Now, I do know that there are service dogs who do all kinds of things for people, but I was having a pretty difficult time figuring that one out.

FYI, there is an entire blind family who owns at OKW and travels there usually in January with their 2 service dogs. At one time it was 3 people and 3 dogs, but I think the father may have passed away, because last time I only saw the son and his mom and 2 dogs.

I hate it when I see people "bending" the service dog rules to fit themselves. It ruins it for those who have legitimate service animals in public.

Can you imagine the issues that would cause????? Think in terms of excrement and liability. Someone is going to have to have some very expensive insurance to cover that!:scared1:

I totally agree. That place is a palace! We used to take advantage of the pet care centers at each of the parks in the past when we combined Disney trips with dog show trips, and it was kind of a PITA to have to go there every day to excercise them etc. This new central facility is state of the art though!:thumbsup2

As mentioned, only service animals are allowed.

Lately, I have started to see obvious abuses of the ADA law. People having their pets listed as service dogs to satisfy their own selfish needs. Just like the handicapped parking at the malls.

I heard of a situation I wondered about with "service dogs". There was a dog barking from a unit in OKW. Turns out that the dog was alone and the owner was in the parks (so the owner later said) at the time. Aren't true service dogs with their owners at all times?

One would think so. How could they perform their necessary service if they are not with the person for whom they provide their service?

That said, the "No Pets" policy is not unique to DVC, but is a standard policy of all Disney resorts. Thus, this discussion really does not meet our criteria for being a DVC specific topic, so I need to close this thread.
