Pets at Universal Hotels

Has anyone brought their pet to a Universal Hotel?? I just read there is no size restriction which I find GREAT!! I have a very well behaved dog but he is big!! This is going to make us want to visit Universal more often!!

Hi , yeah, I bring my two dogs with us on every universal trip and I never have a problem, their great when it comes to that.=0) The kennel by the parks are great also if you dont want to leave your dog alone during the day in the room, we normally take them to the kennel b/c we feel safer that way, the staff there loves dogs and they have been great with our two dogs (two kids basically). We have a chihuahua and a schnauzer which are not too big, but I have seen other people there with big dogs such as boxers and labs, etc. So they dont have a size restriction from what I've seen and we go every year like 2-3 times a year. There is a small fee of 25.00 for the hotels which is not that bad, we think, b/c if we were to leave them in the kennel in our hometown it would normally cost about 60-70 dollars to leave them there, so were saving money and feeling better that we didn't leave our kids behind.

Yes, we've been 3 times with our lab, and we're going up this weekend again staying at the PBH. Bringing a big dog is no problem.

Our labs had to go with us during the mandatory evacuation for last years hurricane. They loved RPR and HRH.

Im very excited about this!! We hate to leave our baby in a kennel if we dont have to.
Do they let you leave your dog in the room if you are not there?? Im not talking All day but for a few hours?? He is so good doesnt bark or anything like that.

We go to the parks once a year and always stay at the Portofino or the Hard Rock and always take our dog - an amercian eskimo - Dante with us. He loves it. They treat him like a king. Most of the staff loves dogs and wants to play with him and gives him treats. He's not a barker so we leave him in the room - he just naps all day or watches tv. We have seen large dogs there - that is not a problem. Have fun!

Question I am a dog lover no flames please but just wondering do they have dogs stay is specific building ? Husband is allergic and would be able to tell right away if we were in a room that a cat or dog was in. What happens when dogs are barking at night? I would think this keeps those in rooms close up at night. And where do they go to the bathroom so I can avoid this area? Thanks

No problem. They have pet floors, so if your Husband is allergic, just say that when you check it and tell them you don't want to be on a pet floor.

If the dogs bark at night, then people call the front desk, and a manager will come to the room and speak to the people.

They have dog walking areas on the sides of the hotels. These are areas that most people would not walk on. They have pooper scooper bags for people to clean up the mess.

Just got back from the PBH, and it was the best. At the PBH pool, they allow dogs to stay in the top deck area. So the wife and I are laying on a lounge chair, with our dog next to us. The life guard staff loves to pet the dogs. I heard one story where a dog jumped in the lake and got dirty. So the person brought it to the pool, and the staff bathed it. They want to help out because they're bored.

We stayed at the HRH this past weekend with our Shih-Tzu. We had a great room on the first floor (1127). We were near the exit door where he could go potty and also near where the path that leads to USF. We had no problems at all. As for maid service, I just straightened the room myself and got clean towels and coffee and emptied the trash from the maid.
I will definately take him back next time!

My husband and I stay at the Portofino or the Hard Rock at least once a year and we have always taken our dog with us. I know that some people say that there is a "dog friendly floor" but we have stayed in all types of different rooms on all floors. We have stayed in hospitality suites, king rooms and club rooms. I have never heard a dog barking at night but the walls at the Portofino and at the Hard Rock are paper thin so you will be able to hear people walking and talking down the hallway and you will definately be able to hear your nieghbors. If a dog is barking at night just call the front desk. Dogs go to the bathroom on the front lawn or on the back lawn by where the boats that take you to Universal Studios are - but my dog once went in the middle of the Hard Rock lobby so I guess - basically - they go wherever they want to.

We love being able to take are baby(11 y/o Cocker) to the park with us. And we are taking are new baby (10 week Cocker) with us next Wed when we go to HHN. WE use to go to Disney 6-8 times a year but we have been making several more trips to Universal due to being able to take are kids with us. WAKE UP DISNEY!!!

Yeah, you'd think Disney would catch on. They have so many rooms, they could easily make a wing of each hotel dog friendly. It's the main reason we stayed at the PBH and spent $550. If we didn't bring our dog, we would have been in the Best Western for $50 a night, instead it was $275, but worth it all.

We left our lab in the room and she didn't bark. To her, it was like being at home. So we'd take the boat over to the parks, go have a great time, ate at Mythos, brought some left overs back, and she woofed them down. But the biggest perk is being able to bring the dog to the pool. All the people come up and want to pet her, and the dog loves the attention.

This is sooo good to know. Is Great! To me, my chihuahuas are my babies. So good to know that they can stay in the room with us. I was planning on staying at a Disney Resort, but because of this I'll be staying at one of those 3 US/IoA hotels. Thanks for posting this.

Well there are 2 Reservations(Fonsy,Mine) you have Lost Mickey since you dont welcome pets. Yes we will still come to your parks cause we still love the Mouse more, but the other accomadations are so appealing. What do I need to do get Kelly Rippa on the situation for this Christmas.

Matter of fact that sounds like a good idea. Any one wanna help with sending letters to Mrs. Rippa??

from PBH with Scruffy. I have to say there is a definite feeling of welcome for the pooches! He received a bag at check in with two bowls for wood and water, some doggie treats, a pet food lid and a place mat. My kids got "hello, welcometo the Portofino". It was priceless! I did see a lady with two Min Pins, and another Shih Tzu at the other end of our building (West Wing). We were 2nd floor, facing the water, great location, right by the boat dock. Only bad part was the demon could see out the window and watch us waiting for the boat, so he started scratching at the glass. Other than that, his only complaint was as someone else mentioned, the PAPER THIN WALLS AND DOORS! Add that to people with no concideration for families trying to sleep when the come staggering in at 2AM, and you get one grumpy dog. He thought he was protecting us from the things bumping into the door, only to get scolded by mom for yipping! Someone actually took our Doggie door hanger that you put on the knob to alert housekeeping that there is a dog in the room!

Okay, someone mentioned the no size restriction and after this visit I can attest to that. I had the girls at the beach pool this morning, they were swimming while I was kicked back on a chaise lounge reading, when I looked up to see a lifeguard carrrying what looked like a mixing bowl full of water. Coming behind her was a man with what had to be the biggest Great Dane I have ever seen! This thing was probably close to 130 pounds and stood flat footed at about 3.5 feet tall! Man and dog took up residence at a table poolside and the dog just chilled , sitting there watching everything. I was amazed! Definitely not a WDW property!

When I called down to the desk about some issues we had (confused reservation, leading to room card mixup) I mentioned the missing door hanger. They brought up an entire new package for the pup!

Wow that is way more than what we use to get. We have never recieved anything for the dog. Maybe they are really giving us something for that extra fee. Ok Mickey your getting your attack from the pet lovers I swear I am starting it right now. Hope you all are with me!!

When we used to drive down, we'd take our boxer. The first was our brindle Bodhi. We only had him a short 2 years, but I am so glad we brought him. We were at the RPR that time. He had his crate in the room and stayed in there when we were out.

The second time was summer 2005 - our (new) flashy fawn Sid came. Stayed at the HRH. Same thing - crate was brought with us. Our dogs love their crates.

The staff at both hotels loved our dogs. In the early a.m., we'd walk thru the lobby just so the bellmen and valets could say hi! Ours aren't barkers, so we never had complaints. Just some of the housekeepers were afraid as we walked through the halls.

Now we have 3 boxers and fly down, so they stay at a very nice kennel here in Jersey or we have a 'sitter' who stays at our house.

I am a DVC member and have been renting ,so I can take my 3-4 lb chihuahua with me. he spent 6 fun days at the RPR in july. he's a baby not a dog. so we think anyway and so does he. we take him everywhere we can and pay extra. his airline ticket cost more than ours and he doesn't even get a seat. also I need southwest airlines to take dogs
