I'm curious and I know someone can answer my question. Why is Peter Pan always such a long standby ride? Is it the popularity or is it capacity or is it both? I've never understood; I enjoy it, but it's not exactly the greatest most thrilling ride....it's nice. And it's over.

Popularity, it's my wife's favorite, just relaxing, and the detail work that is put into it makes it that much more relaxing.

Primary reason: very low capacity.

Secondary reason: wide appeal and no height restrictions.

I think Peter Pan was a movie that a lot of people remember from their childhood and enjoyed watching. The ride brings back some of those memories for me and is my favourite ride.

the fact that it is a ride that any age and height can go on, and enjoy, makes it very popular. at 38 years it is still something I have to go on each time I am at MK.

I blame low capacity. Dumbo used to have crazy long lines till they doubled the capacity.

I agree with the nostalgia. I went to WDW many years ago when I was 6 and there are 3 rides I vividly remember--POTC, Tiki room and Peter Pan. PP is still one of my very favorite rides.

The line isn't always long. We rode Pan on a Monday night in early June. At about 11 pm the posted wait was 40 minutes but the actual wait was less than 1 minutes as there were only about 10 people in line. It's a nice ride but I don't think we've ever waited more than 10 minutes for it.

It's both. We either head there first or use FP+ for late morning since my young kids insist on riding each time.

My daughters were too little for sdmt so we hit that at rope drop instead and did it three times in a row no wait! I think it's the wide appeal, young kids too small for the headliners, grandparents, me, something for everyone! a classic Disney ride!

During Wishes is often a very good time to ride PP.
It is also not unusual for a huge rush of guests to enter right after Wishes. So that is why the wait times show high.

Unfortunately it is harder to tell how long the standby wait is with the new queue.

One of these days, I'll need to pull myself away from the fireworks and enjoy some shorter lines!

Thanks for asking this, OP. I've always wondered what the big deal was with Peter Pan too.

how much of the ride did they change? or did they just spruce it up?

Capacity.

I saw a blog post that says Peter Pan has a theoretical ride capacity fo 720 per hour. Compare to 2800 per hour on Pirates. It's also a ride that appeals to all ages and has no height requirement. And for some us, it's a nostalgia thing as much as anything. Now that Snow White and Mr. Toad are gone, it's the last of the classic dark rides.

We do this for rides like Splash Mountain - have been allowed to stay on the boat because there was no one there during fireworks.

Would not miss Wishes for Peter Pan, though.

Peter Pan is the quintessential Disney ride to me. It captures the spirit of not wanting to grow up, and isn't that why we adults still go to Disney? Whether to experience it through/with our children or to relive our own childhoods, there is nothing quite as magical as setting sail in a flying pirate ship bound for Neverland!
