Found the 1 thing that might push me over the fence...
Mirroring, I purchased the new cable today for my original iPad, and only video and video out apps show on my tv. I thought I read that mirroring would be supported with the iOS 4.3, I have an email into apple support, but this may be the capability that pushes me over the edge and prompts a new purchase.
