Hi everyone,

Just wanted to give a shout out to Pete, hope you see this/someone gets it to you, saying good luck with your new sobriety count.

I've been sober from all drugs and alcohol since March 19, 1990, and I can say that I wouldn't trade anything in the universe for having that monkey off my back forever. I was in AA for the first three years, heavily, and then slowly backed out of it. It's been about seven years now that I've had any contact with AA, but I have many other things that I do to maintain my sobriety via my spiritual practice, which is primarily Insight (Vipassana) Buddhist meditation. That's just been my path, there are MANY paths to take to get where you need to be (and don't let anyone tell you otherwise - always follow and trust your own sober instincts!).

One of the reasons I fell in love with Disney World vacations is there is NOT a big focus on drinking. Most beach and resort destinations, drinking is basically it for activities, unless you're into sports, which as a fellow fluffy spaz I can assure you I'm not.

Anyways, if you would ever like to PM me, and anyone else reading this who is struggling with addiction, I'm happy to talk about my experience.

congrats !!!

and I feel you on the Disney aspect I love that it turns most people in to a child and when your a child drinking is USUALLY not on the list. I have seen too many relatives suffer from alcohol abuse and that was enough to make me stay away entirely!!!! I am glad to hear of your great success!!!:goodvibes

congratulations! that's very brave of you to post that... I've had some relatives with drinking problems... and I bet they wouldn't ever admit they had one... sadly... I admire your courage! and it's really nice to offer your help to others :)

Yeah, I have nothing to hide, my life is amazingly good compared to where I was in 1989! Anyways, being available to let others know how to climb out of that hole is a big part of what keeps you from slipping back yourself.

Congrats on your accomplishment.

That was pretty brave of you to put out there.

Congrats!! That is a big feat and you have come a long way, you deserve all the happiness you get!

I have a post around here on being on the other end of addiction, it really is a heck of a place to be :( It's a rollercoaster that I didnt chose to go on, ya know. I pray one day, my addict can say the same things your saying now :)

im new pretty new here, but still i was suprised i havent seen any other threads about addiction yet, this is the first one. Im 4 years clean from what most people consider the worst of the worst, and thank God every day i was able to get that Dragon off my back. Having things to do that are constuctive sure helps, that is why i love places like this. you sit down and before you know it you have just killed 4 hours ! Keep the good work Pete, keep on Fighting the Good Fight !! were all proud of ya !

Congratulations to you and also to Pete. I have many family members who have struggled or are still struggling with alcoholism and it kills me. I am so happy for you and Pete!
