Rough quote from the DISBoard show: "Unless you are crazy you'll never fill up an 8 GB memory card on your trip."

Obviously Pete should spend more time on the Photography board, where plenty of us would develop a nervous tick if we only had one 8 GB card with us! Many of us will fill up multiple 8 GB cards on a trip. I can take around 2,000 photos with the size and number of memory cards I have, and will probably be increasing that to at least 2,500 or 3,000 by the end of the year.

Memory is cheap, memories are priceless. Carry lots of cards, take lots of photos. :thumbsup2

Multiple EIGHT GB cards? Lord that's a lot of photos of Mickey Mouse! haha. I use a 8 GB card though. I usually move my photos each day to my laptop in a separate folder so I'm not sure if I would fill it up. I take much less photos at Disney now than I use to though!

I totally understand what you mean! As a 'photographer' I need to have numerous memory cards with me because I take so many pictures. I even bring my netbook so I can download the pictures at night to have more memory for new. :-)

I have to say, I agree with you. I spend A LOT of time taking pictures. Especially in Animal Kingdom and Epcot. I can spend an entire hour or more taking pictures of the tigers (if the ladies are cooperative.) I love big cats. I think I will be bringing 4 or 5 4 gig cards and I have several smaller cards as well. I like using smaller cards, just in case something goes wrong.

My upcoming trip is a solo trip with major time going to be spent taking photographs. I think I need a lot of time in the Magic Kingdom. My photos from there are lacking. The DHS is the least photographed park for me.

Yep, multiple 8GB cards. :thumbsup2

I thought I was bad taking as many photos as I do. Usually around 1,200 images. Which is a huge number. If it was film that would be 33 36 exposure rolls of film which would have cost around $500 for the film and developing. :scared1:

To be fair to Pete if he his shooting JPGs on a camera that does not have a large megapixel sensor he likely can get ALOT of images on a 8GB card. Not as many as some of us photo fanatics but enough. :)

Later,
Dan

Not to mention my camera now shoots HD video. Wanna fill up an 8 gig card in a hurry? Take come video, I carry two 8 gig and two 4 gig cards with me. I'm thinking about buying a bigger one for the next trip.

I am.....guilty. 6213 pics last trip and about 2 hours of HD video across 2 cameras. I bring 2 8gb SD cards, a 16 gb SD card, 2 8gb CF cards, 2 4 GB SD Cards and an SDHC to CF adapter. I also capture Broadcast quility audio while I am taking pictures or videos so that I have good background audio for home movies or for just sitting back and listening to when I am not in my happy place :goodvibes. That is another 2 of the 4GB SD Cards. Christy takes her P&S camera also, and that is another 2GB SD Card.

Yikes, maybe I should change my Screen name to MemoryMike.

FWIW - I shoot RAW.

And you need a bunch of memory when you have this many cameras:

On my last trip to the World I took I believe it was around 3,000 pictures. I had my laptop with me and emptied the card every night. I also have two batteries for my camera and would charge them both. I might get an extra 8 GB card for my trip this May. After one of the ladies said you don't want something to go wrong with your card at Disney got me thinking, maybe I should take two 8GB cards with me.

I can fill an 8 GB card in a day but after I "chimp" or get rid of the ones that didn't turn out, it's probably way less than that.

For example, when I shoot fireworks or Spectro, I use continuous shooting. One of those events can yield close to 500 pics. I dump the ones that weren't timed right, didn't turn out, etc...and I'm usually left with some great shots! It's the same rule for taking pics of kids: take tons but not all of them will turn out!

I do the same thing. Last week I went over to take photos of the flower and garden festival. I took just over 1000 photos. After I go through them I might have a couple hundred that I will want to keep. I always take multiple photos of everything I shoot so I know I get at least one good shot. So I carry 3 8gb cards.

Hi Don, do you back up you pics and video each day or do you just fill up the card over your whole vacation?

For my new camera we are thinking of getting 2 x 8GB cards. It can take pictures and HD video and I'm worried we'll run out of space over an 11 night trip.

I bring my netbook and an external hardrive for backing up the videos and pictures. That lets me wipe the cards every night.

I do the same, I carry my laptop, put the photos on it AND on the external portable HD! I also leave them on the card however, I haven't filled up all my cards yet, but I have managed to fill two 8 Gig cards and part of a 4 on a two week trip. If I have downtime, I will also toss them on a DVD too....

Don, I also upload them to Walgreens at night so that I have an offsite copy.

Are those high-res when uploaded? I know it better than nothing, but just curious.

I can upload at full JPG res or at reduced JPG res. But I upload the JPG converted version and keep the RAW pics on the laptop and external HD.

I keep going back and forth with RAW. I was taking photos in RAW for a long time, but find I don't post process very often. So now I only do it when I'm out doing "potraits" of landscape. I guess mostly because I'm too lazy to spend the time with Photoshop to tweek all my photos.

I take 10 x 2gb cards with me and my lap top. I normally just download my photos everynight and only use one or two of the cards but my last trip my battery died in my laptop so I was glad I had the extra cards with me.

Wow. only 8G? I'd die.

When I went on the PCC1.0, I took over 8,000 photos. I always bring my laptop with me to download the photos each night. And have multiple 8G cards with me.

There is nothing worse than being in the middle of a parade and realizing that you've used up all of your memory cards on you.
