Pete,
I think an underlying theme in the "Cars" movie is how Ligtning McQueen thought everything revolved around him. He learned that he could, and had to lean on others. By the end of the movie he had opened up to others, showed kindness, love, respect & gave up his ultimate goal for what he knew he should do (at the end of the race w/ the King).
I never gave this any thought untill you mentioned/questioned it.
I didn't realize the movie was so deep.
