Pete, this whole thing is a lot bigger then the firefighters union. Disney doesn't want to set a precedence that will affect the negotiations with all of the other unions.

As far as cost of living raises go, unless it's in their contract, they don't get it. 8 years without a cost of living raise is the union's fault for agreeing to such, if that's the case.

As far as Disney assisting in paying increases in medical insurance cost, union money and votes were instrumental in bringing Obamacare to this country. Not only are Unions having to pay the 40%+ increases in health insurance cost, so is the rest of America. The Union may not like it, but TOO BAD.

If the union members don't like their work conditions, they should just leave and go find other jobs.

I think Pete's point was that this was contract negotiation so your point about the COLA not being in their contract misses the point. Same for the health care issue. That is always part of bargaining. Your point about setting a precedent would be more valid if WDW hadn't just (with a year or so if I recall right) agreed to new bargaining agreements with the majority of its bargaining unit employees, giving them decent wage increases among other things.

Remember this everyone in case you ever want a raise - or to negotiate better terms on anything, take it or leave.

Well but in this context the statement misunderstands the whole point of collective bargaining. The union is trying to achieve better terms and working conditions for all employees, new and longer term. The fact that individual union members can love it or leave it is really irrelevant.
