Pet stains out of carpet

How old are the stains? Do they smell?

For new stains that are still wet, blot up the urine, then use some water to rinse it, then finish out with pet enzyme or vinegar pour on top. If there is any discoloration, use carpet cleaner, preferably the kind with oxygen bleach.

For recent stains that have dried follow the above as well, except, of course, you can't blot up any urine.

For stains that were missed and are older, use straight vinegar on the spot. Wine vinegar works best, but white works as well. Then use carpet cleaner to get out any discoloration. I had a spot recently (under a plastic table cloth that sits under a cat litter box) and no idea how long it had been there (at least 3 weeks). I carpet cleaned the area, used spray on carpet cleaner and scrubbed, then enzymed it. Still the smell persisted. Poured straight vinegar all over it and waited. As of last Saturday, the carpet smells of vinegar and nothing else when I put my nose to it, but I can live with that.

Bissel Stomp 'n Go pads! Easy to use and do best job of anything I've tried.

I had the best luck by steam vacuuming by carpet with a vinegar water mix. And I had some NASTY pee carpet. Yes, the living room smelled like salad dressing for awhile, but that is SO much better than peepee smell:)

I use a mixture of 1 part original dawn to three parts hydrogen peroxide. This has cleared up stains for us.

If you find a solution alone isn't effective for you, a carpet guy told us this trick...

You need an iron you won't EVER use for clothing again, an old towel and a carpet cleaning solution (the type you put in a carpet cleaner). Treat the area with a mix of the cleaner and REALLY hot water. Then put the towel over the area and use the iron on it's hottest setting. It will pull the stain up into the towel.

Of course, good idea to test a hidden part of your carpeting first. I've never had issues, but all my carpeting has always been shades of beige.

I highly recommend Nature's Miracle as well--particulary the Urine Destroyer variety. I bought a big gallon of it because one of our pups goes outside to potty 95% of the time...but the other 5%.......

I blot up the spot with a towel (if it's still wet....this is the best way to treat it) then pour a bunch of natures miracle over it. Do not just spritz the carpet...the cleaner needs to soak into the pad or else you are going to clean the "visual" stain but still have the pee smell. From there, we just let the nature's miracle air dry.

Rubbing alcohol...it stinks to high heaven but is the best thing I've tried. Do it on a day when you can open up your windows. Pour it onto the stain then rub it with a cloth.

Any of the enzymatic cleaners, including Nature's Miracle, will work for smell when the stain is fresh. Natures Miracle has a stronger fragrance and some types of it also include the oxygen bleach.

On an old stain with old smell, you are wasting your money. The bacteria that produced the smell and stain are dead. Vinegar and a plain old oxygen bleach are better.

I used to work cat rescue. . .I've seen and heard it ALL.
