Doing some research for what to do with our dog and I noticed that there are a lot of 'Pro Pet Sitters'. Almost more then boarding services (In Dallas, at least).

Anyone here ever try one?

here in Canada.

I have a great girl...early twenties, works at our local humane society. She comes and stays here...feeds all 3 cats, changes litter, walks my dog 2x daily and when I come home the animals are happy and the house is spotless. I pay her $45 (Canadian) a day and she is the best thing I ever found. They are much happier remaining in their own home...Good Luck!

Yes I have a friend who does that for me. She comes over three times a day and lets the dogs out. Takes them for a walk two of those three times. She then spends about an hour with them each time. Makes sure they are fed, watered, brushed. She did this for me for four days and I paid her $100. She was happy and so was I and so were my doggies!

I started my own pet-sitting business when I was 19 and sold it four years later to my employee. It was so much fun and really enjoyed meeting so many people and their pets. Pet owners are the best kind of people to know.

Anyway, pet-sitting is the better of the options when it comes to your pet and vacations. The pet gets to stay at home and visited several times a day. It gets pricey, but you know you don't have to worry about the dog freaking out at the vets, or the logistics for getting them there. Plus, pet-sitters look after your house, your cats, your plants and get your mail.

You can locate one in the yellow pages and have them come over for a free consultation. They will provide references and should be bonded and insured. You can also go to Pet Sitters International and use their locator page. This is a great organization and everyone that I met through here was reputable.

Good luck!!

For our last two vacations (11 days in WDW and 5 days in Hershey) we have hired college girls from church to come and stay at the house. I paid $200 for the Disney trip, and $60 for the Hershey trip. The girls took care of the dog, 5 cats and the bunny. I didn't require any housecleaning, just pet care. I have a fenced back yard, so they didnt' have to walk the dog.
Well worth every cent. I liked knowing that someone was in the house, and the pets were happy being home.
