Pet peeves I saw today at Magic Kingdom

I know I'll be in the minority here but I'm used to it so flame away.

Peeve 1 - sorry but I smoke. If I am outside, I have the right to smoke as much as you have the right not to. Whatever you may think about cigarettes and/or smoking, I really don't care so please don't preach to me. Last time I checked, it's still MY choice.

If you are that sensitive to smoke, (asthma/allergies), then maybe you should be the one to stay home. Why am I suppose to stop my activites because you are around? I paid the same price as you to get in to WDW. If you want to make the park non-smoking, express you concerns to WDW management.

Peeve 2 - all the whining on this thread about heelies, strollers, giving up a seat on the bus. It's always me, me, me. That's the problem with this instant gratification society we now live in. It's always about the me first, everyone else second.

Oh, my trip is ruined because a kid screamed down the hall or the door slammed and now I can' sleep.

No one would give me a seat on the bus, how rude.

I'm not giving up my sit too a kid. He choose to walk.

Man, I hate this place, that kid almost ran into me with those darns heelies, next time I'm going to knock him down. That will teach him I mean business. Doesn't he know he may ruin my trip if its not perfect.

That lady/kid/gandma/dad just hit me with there stroller. That's it, they should be banned from WDW along with ECV's. And can't they get their OWN bus so we don't have to wait 7.5 mins for them to be loaded. Man, now my trip was ruined.

I think I'll knock that cigarette out of her hand and run. That will teach them.

On the smoking issue, your right you have that choice. But you have to go to certain areas, your not supposed to light up in the middle of the line. I keep my children away from your areas because I don't want them to suffer from the issues that you more than likely will someday. I don't smoke, and I stay out of your area, so why can't smokers respect the rest of us and just smoke in the areas?

On the kids running in the hallways, it doesn't ruin my vacation it just makes me wonder where there parents are, our kids have to follow rules they just don't get to do whatever they want. There is no reason for a child to be running at midnight and waking everyone up, its called respect.

yeah it sucks for people who are exposed to second hand smoke just as much. because of my parents and pratically my whole family smoking around me for most of my life i have become highly asthmatic and not to mention i am allergic to it to begin with. so thank you, all you smokers, for giving me a chronic illness that could be avoided if the situation was handled and made illegal in the first place.

No- please DO NOT get rid of the little "smokey guy" cuz i like 'em and he is part of my signature!

just because people see the little dude does not mean someone is going to be tempted to light up that has never smoked before!-- we are all adults here and we do not need people starting to dictate what little cartoons are "politically correct"!

:moped: wear your helmet!
:coffee: caffine is bad for you!
:duck: dont throw rocks- you are going to poke someones eye out!
:worship: hey- who is he praying/worshiping to??
:badpc: you need anger management!
 what are you saying- people that have mental problems are "crazy"?
:clown: clowns just scare me--- i think they are creepy- i think they should be banned form this site.
:santa: santa?? not even touching that one after the whole holiday religious debate!
:wizard: witchcraft??- (not that anything is wrong with that! :thumbsup2 )
:love2: hey wait-- is that a boy and a girl??
:drinking1 driking is wrong- it can lead to alcoholism!

OK I AM DONE-- BUT DO YOU GET MY POINT-- ??! :scratchin

lol. slightly off topic, but did you hear that apparently the MPAA is trying to re-rate the system to anytime someone is shown smoking, it will be an R rating?

well not only am i severly asthmatic, i am also extremely allergic to tobacco smoke. so anytime i get near it, i get sick.even when walking past the smoking areas i can feel myself get ill(and i don't walk past them on purpose, since i'm not a smoker i don't really map out the sections). so i appreciate the smoking ban, and i don't appreciate your comment. so i have the choice of going to the park and getting ill because of someone being careless, or the choice to not even go on a vacation. explain to me how that is fair to me??

This is so wrong! There are rules in the parks and on the grounds about smoking. Smoke if you want to but follow the rules on where you smoke. How about next time I just spit on your shoes? I have the right to spit anywhere I want, right? Same concept. I would never, ever do this, but then again I would never blow smoke in someone else's face or the face of a child. Kill yourself not the rest of us.

ahaha! i love that! i'm going to spit on everyone's shoes who is smoking in a non-designated area now! lol

You have to wonder what some people are thinking walking around in swimwear :scared: I am one that should and would not.

i wore shorts and my bikini top once, it was in the middle of summer and it had to be at least 105 with the humidity and it was just too hott to wear anything else.

You know what else annoys me? When people stand in line for the Ladies restroom (why oh why is there ALWAYS a line?) and can see a child, or indeed an adult, in line behind them that is clearly in more urgent need of a bathroom than you, but no one ever lets them in? :confused3 If I see someone who clearly needs to use the bathroom, especially very small children, I let them in - no need to ruin everyone's day and have to buy expensive overpriced Disney underwear when the four year old didn't realise she'd had one too many cokes today...

i have a peeve that has to do with the bathroom thing as well. although, this is just in general.

now, i understand if your a mom and you're the only one there and you have a son who isn't old enough to let in the bathroom by himself.....i really understand that......but what i REALLY can't stand is when you see mom and son go into the bathroom, and come out and dad is coming from the men's bathroom!! why couldn't son go with the father!? this only drives me crazy because for some outrageous reason the women's bathroom line is extremely long all the time(i don't know about you all, but it takes me about 2 minutes to do what i have to do) and brining a boy in who could easily go with dad into the men's bathroom just holds up the line even more.

I am a smoker and my own home is non-smoking!! I stand outside in 6 degree weather and freeze. And at WDW, I happily cart my behind to the designated area and stay there!!! At my resort, if I am waiting for the bus smoking and it is clearly bothersome to someone, or there are a lot of people crammed in there, I put it out.

I think the designated areas are just fine. I don't want to give anyone an asthma attack, and walking around a crowded theme park with a lit ember is dangerous when a good chunk of the people there are at eye level with your hand and cigarette!! I wouldnt walk around smoking if I could, I would be terrified of burning someone. :scared:

And I worked in a pediatric ER, I have seen what just the smell of smoke on someone's clothes can do to an asthmatic. No thanks. You'll find me in the designated areas!

I don't mind this if it's the off season and I know technically it shouldn't make a difference but if the show is no where near full it seems ridicules to have only 1/4 of the theater full and everyone sitting at the farthest seats leaving the middle open. In my opinion Disney needs to make some adjustment for this in the slower season. But when it's peak season and you know the show is going to fill up you've got to move down.

This is happening - we were there last week and caught the first Mermaid show of the day at MGM. It was not crowded at all, so the CMs only asked people to move 2/3 of the way down the row.

After 2 days I have finally finished this thread...I LOVE WDW but there are some things that have ticked me off thru the years.
Now please those who get their panties in a wad to quickly take a deep breath...
Manners please.. if we taught our children manners like our folks taught us most of these pet pieves could be avoided!!!
The people who just stop make me crazy, if you have issues please take it to the side and resolve your issues instead of making those behind you stop sudden also and get slammed into (when my son was younger he was constantly getting run over b/c of this).
The BO is another cringing moment but when you have one of these rank smelling people who are playing like they don't speak english when you try your best to ask them nicely to get out of your bubble is sticking to you b/c it is sooo hot out, ok can you tell that drives me insane?
One other is the PDA, now I am not talking about a kiss here or there but the slobbering fools gropping one another in front of children, folks there is a time and place. Standing in line for Pirates isn't the time.
Thanks for letting me vent and I realize i am one of the fortunate who get to frequent WDW and I truely appreciate it!! I try to be as patient as possible but somethings really crawl under your skin. I hope that all who visit WDW can try and over look and brush off some of the annoying habits of others and enjoy the magic of WDW!!! pixiedust:
Thanks again O/P!!
Micky

Seaworld is twice as bad with regard to smoking. There seem to be many more "Designated Smoking Areas" around Seaworld and some of them are around restrooms. The real problem is that the smokers will see a sign which points to the designated smoking area and assume they can light up right there next to the sign, right on the main path where everyone is trying to walk by. It may be that Seaworld is attracting a different sort of crowd (meaning those that don't care about WDW, childless people, party animals) and thus the greater numbers of smokers.

Remember your talking about men ( some not all) they dont even like changing diapers at times and besides do we even know what the bathrooms for the men are like could they possibly be all urinals are to high for children to use or toliets bigger not sure never been in the Mens batrhroom at WDW before. I am a single mom and even now when my son is old enough to go by himself to the bathroom I still fear for him (perverts you know) so I wish he still could come in with me to the bathroom. But I am dating someone and I can atleast send him into the bathroom to check on him. Plus my bf and I dont talk about how the bathrooms look inside. Only how dirty they are and it seems the ladies rooms are always the dirtiest.

Well, when we go, anywhere. I usually take DS's with me because most the time DH doesn't have to go. If he does, then fine, he takes them. If not, then I take them. They go in one together, or seperate(if there isn't a line) and I go in one. They take the same amount of time as me, usually finishing before me. If DH doesn't have to go, I see no reason for me to not take them with me. Bathroom breaks take forever with 4 kids. Even if DH takes the potty age boys with him, that means I have to wait for him so I can go, and then I have to go back in again to change the babies. But we have never gone at a time of year when there is a line anyway. :confused3 So I guess we aren't ruining anyones magic. :duck:
:lmao:

I have finally read all the posts and now for my go!

Smoking-In designated areas is fine by me, no need to get worked up if people are following the rules.

Giving up seats for tired Kids-I'm a tired young adult after a day at the parks, but I don't expect anyone to give up thier seat for me, I'm just under 5' therefore it can be difficult to reach the hanging down straps so I have to either hold the seat if I can or hold onto my Husband who is holding onto the hangy things.

Parents who think their child has more of a right to get in pics with characters and pushes them in front of everyone saying "go on darling", this is when I get really annoyed. They also think that when they turn up 5 mins before or as a parade starts that their kids should go infront of all the people that have waited for ages. Or the people who stand/hover on the parade walkway despite being moved on by a cast member. I have paid more than a child to get into the park therefore I think to assume its all for kids is ridiculous! And someone said that this is an error made by people on their first visit! Please, you can see people waiting for the parade for two hours in advance! They should also stop them running up to a character during a character meal because 1) It's dangerous 2) You've been told they will COME TO YOUR TABLE and 3) Its rude to interrupt people and even ruder to get in the way of their photos!

On that subject, I am aware majority of the time of others taking pics and I try to keep out of peoples way, If I get in the way I will say sorry and I would expect others to do the same.

Many people think that particular rules don't apply to them,
No flash photography, Move to the end of the line, no line cutting etc But what we have to understand is that some people are ignorrant and arrogant and whilst I won't let them get away with it I pity them for being so ridiculous.

Oh well in under 2 weeks I'll be in DLP, no there's a challenge for people who think WDW is bad try DLP. Some really rude europeans, (and some really nice!), no lines for meeting characters and no one telling people off for pushing in to meet them, still I love it and will continue to go as it is only a small percentage of people who do these things!

Okay, everyone, here's your phrase phonetically spelled (warning, it's a command, not so polite): KEE tuh tay...................basically, move it!

Will also work for people in your personal space, holding up a table, small children treading on your toes in line, people who have stopped short to look at a map in the walkway.............................

I can't help with all the 200 other languages spoken in WDW though!

I hate this too, but unless you were there before it started don't be too quick to judge the parent that pushes their child up in front. My daughter is very timid and knows the wait your turn rules. Sometimes one person cuts and then it becomes choas. The CM's are either really good about making sure the kids that were waiting and in line get in or they don't care at all and let it happen. At the point where several people have cut in front of us and the line turns into a pack I push my kid up. And I tell the other people around me, loudly, you were here waiting too- go next. I hate to decend to their level, but we have been cut too many times and then had to deal with a crying child because it is not fair. The CM are the only ones that can really control this situation, if they do not do their jobs what is a parent to do?

After just being in DL this is fresh in my mind and Ive experienced it in WDW too.

The line cutters! I have no problem if someone has a kid who needs something, or even an adult needs an emergency potty break or something thats understandable. But when an entire family joins the family in front of you...to take up 3 more Dumbos, thats wrong. In this instance, to make it worse for other people, the father and 1 child behind us lifted his 3 DDs over the gate to take up 2 more Dumbos. No wonder the line never moves!

Since we are talking about pet peeves and phones....if you are checking out in a store, dont expect us to not ask you questions when you put your merchandise on the counter. I have gotten to the point that I will contue to do my job properly, phone or no phone. I sometimess even ask a couple extra questions just because. :teeth: I just pretend I dont see the phone.
And DONT stick your waving finger in my face telling me to wait because you are on the phone. I will send you to the end of the line so you have time to finish your call.

OT: I went to grab something we needed for after-school one day at Target during our conference period (sent by other grade-level teachers). Just as I got in line to pay, one of them called me. Now, I knew it was important or she wouldn't have called, but I am now checking out. So I told her to hold on.........left the phone on while I checked out, then resumed the conversation after I left the counter. She was all mad! Said I shouldn't tell her to hold on when she calls when I'm away from school (because they sent me), because it could be an EMERGENCY. Well, good grief, I'm 20 minutes away........if there's an emergency with one of my kids or the school there's nothing I can do about it way out there..............that's why we have administration, school nurse and 911! It wasn't emergency, she had a child checking out of school that she knew for a week would be leaving, he was in my reading group, and she wanted his reading grade. I don't know the exact grade anyway.........I've got 16 of my own students and 6 extras for reading.........you think I remember his exact number? And can't this wait 20 minutes? I told her it was a low B, about an 82.........turned out it was an 80..........she thought that was too high for him as he didn't make any Bs in her room, and wanted then to argue with me about why I gave him that grade. I said I could remember he did well on his tests, but other than that, she'd have to wait until I got back to school and she could see his grade report! Boy am I glad that I didn't take that call at the counter. I was halfway back to school when I finally hung up with her.
