Is this stuff any good? I want something to add to the carpet shampooer to help neutralize that unpleasant "doggy odor". Not necessarily a urine odor, just a doggy odor. DH had DD spray our entire bedroom carpet last night with Febreze!

Is it anal glands? Ugh...that is some potent stuff.:scared:

Nah, fortunately!:lmao: Especially this little guy's, his "glands" will run you out of the room. The girls will get a whiff and say "Scruffy skunked, EWWWW!" That really is revolting. This is a combination of just like doggy BO (from when he goes outside), and the carpet being 18 years old. It was very expensive caroet when installed by the original owners, and other than the color (peach, blech)looks fine. It's a super thick pile, unfortunately it's just showing age. I refuse to change it just yet though because younger DD is VERY careless with stuff, drinks, etc. And then there's Scruffy's reflux problem, which, although better, still happens, and the dried semi chewed dog food is gross.:scared:

JMHO, but god only knows what all is trapped in the 18 year old carpet that smells :crazy2: and it cannot make for a healthy environment. It needs to be changed, even if it's with something cheap until that spilling/spewing age passes.

I agree with getting rid of the carpet. Nothing will get rid of all the smells in a carpet that old. We did just that recently, and replaced everything downstairs with laminate. Looks beautiful, cleans up perfectly and was pretty affordable.

That being said, Nature's Miracle does work pretty well. Just put it on the spot, let it sit for a while, then clean up. Sometimes it takes a couple of trys, but it gets the smells out.

thanks guys, ya know till I typed it I didn't realize that it was 18 years! Boy how time flies :) Our entire main level of the house except for this bed room and a small guest room and hall from bedroom to master bath, has hardwood, hardwood I cannot replicate :( . It is antique reclaimed flooring out of rail cars, about two to three inches thick. Uneven, discolored, scarred, we love the character of it. In fact the floors sold the house to us. We tried Pergo type laminate in the laundry, it was a disaster. Since one laundry room doom butts up to the back hall from garage to kitchen, that entry is higher in the hall than the floor of the laundry. Plus, the color was impossible to replicate. I'd really rather not have carpet at all, what with the dust factor and all, but Since the rooms are so big installing laminate would be a fortune! I'll just continue shampooing the carpet every two months or so until I find something I can live with. I have even concidered the cork floors, I love the rich tones they have.

I am a big fan of Nature's Miracle, which reminds me I need to get some. I don't know about using it on carpet that just has exsist smell to it. You might be better off using a solution specifically designed for both pet smells and carpet cleaners. I know that Rug Doctor and Resolve (I think) make some that works pretty good.

The Nature's Miracle is wonderful for specific accidents and spots, I can't imagine trying to use it over a large area. I load the Rug Doctor solution into the steam cleaner when cleaning the carpet. That seems to do a better job!

I have used it and Simple Solution. I think Simple Solution is much better.
