Pet meds online?

I asked my vet about buying meds online for my dog (heartworm and flea and tick meds). He strongly suggested against it. He said that if I purchased the heartworm meds online he would need to test my dog more often for hearworms since he wouldn't be sure if the medication that she would be getting would really be working. So in the long run I wouldn't be saving any money. Even though it costs more I continue to buy my dog's meds in my vet's office.
I had also asked about generic flea and tick meds that are sold at like Petco and Petsmart. He has seen several people have problems with those types or flea and tick stuff where their pets got fleas and ticks anyway! Frontline seems to be the most effective, at least for my pup.

Our older sheltie is on three different meds every day, two prescriptions to control grand mal seizures and one for thryroid problems, taken twice a day and it is an expense for his meds, but, I wouldn't feel comfortable buying them from anyone other than our vet and pharmacist (one of them has to be purchased at a regular pharmacy since a pharmacist has to mix it and capsule it after getting the RX from the vet).

My vet no longer carries Sentinel, so we ordered it from 1-800-petmeds, which has a price-matching guarantee. I had a 10% off coupon through MyPoints, plus I got 500 mypoints for the purchase, plus 1-800-petmeds gave me the 10% off the lowest price I could find on the internet, so it was a really great deal!

I buy most things from 1800petmeds.com. I just randomly asked my Vet about it one time, and he said that it was fine (in fact one time he even suggested I use it to save money). My Shih Tzu was on Clomipramine for separation anxiety for a while and I saved a TON by ordering the generic from 1800petmeds.com. Plus they always send a dog biscuit and my Chew monster appreciates that...

This post reminding me I had to order some Frontline and I noticed the price match (Dog.com was $15.00 cheaper) so I ordered it and my CET chews from Petmeds. Hopefully they will price match!

You know you need to email them with a link to the cheaper price??

They emailed me back within a day or two!

Let me preface this by saying I work pt for a veternarian.

We find that most of the time when we get rx requests for somewhere like pet med express that our prices are actually cheaper. And if they aren't we are willing to work with our clients.

This is true. I tried to order some heartguard and flea meds online, but when they called, my vet refused to give them the script for the heartguard. I called to find out why, and the vet said that if I would print off whatever price I found online, he would match it. It's been over a year and thus far he's matched whatever price I find on line, with no problem. When I get ready to buy the stuff, I just go online, find the cheapest price, then run up to my vet, and pick it up for the exact same price (plus no shipping to pay).

It will be true that now most are prefer like online buying for everything lie pets medicine also. Pet medication prices mostly include the cost of pet medication and the cost of shipping per order.

The prescription medication I get for my dog is very expensive. I had heard that online places like pet meds was considerably lower priced for most things, so I did a google search to find out. The only company that ships to Canada is Petmeds that I could find, so I did some research before opening an account. I emailed them to ask them where their meds come from (company name), I had heard horror stories about the meds of some online companies coming from unhealthy places like Mexico etc. They told me the name of the company in the usa and where it was located so that was good. Next thing I asked them is if they could ship a product called Tramadol to Canada, my dog takes this for his arthritis in his legs, and it's a very expensive product to buy. Petmeds assured me that it could be shipped to Canada, the only thing was that because it's a controlled substance, they would have to verify the prescription over the phone with the vet, a written and faxed prescription would not be good enough. So I went ahead and got pre approval from my vet, that he would verify the prescription for me over the phone, so this product could be ordered. Finally after doing all this I set out to open the account, they require a lot of personal information, including my credit card number to open an account, information I am not comfortable giving online, but the meds were half the price I pay at the vet so I opened the account. Next I went to order the meds, only to have a pop up come up saying the medication had been removed from my cart because it's one that can't be shipped to my location grrrrrr!! So I emailed the company...... again!! I asked them why I could not order this, since I emailed before I opened the account making sure this particular medication could be shipped to me, and the answer I got was "yes no problem". I got an answer from them the following day asking me to call them at thier 1-800 number and they would put the order through personally, and that they indeed ship that medication to my address. Sooooo I called them this morning, and was told by a very nice operator that the medication could not be shipped to me because it was a controlled substance, I told her all I had went through before opening the account, and that I was assured twice by email that it could be shipped to me if I call them personally, she apologized and that was it. I was sooooo upset by this because it took a lot of work to get all this arranged with my vet, only to be lied to by pet meds over and over again. My advice to anyone is stay away from this company they lie, lie, lie, so I would not be surprised if thier meds are the cheap crap that comes from Mexico and other places like that.

I wish all vets would do this, mine sure won't.
