During my recent trip to DW I remember passing a site by Port Orleans where they are building a pet "hotel". Does anyone know the name of it so I can check them out? Does anyone know anything about this company?
Thanks so much.

:) I would be interested in knowing this as well. So far Trinity, our JRT, stays with her grandparents, but if they go to WDW with us in the future we may need an alternate plan. They also have Rosko, a standard poodle, who requires A LOT of attention and I think he would do better in a place with activity. :confused3

The kennels by the old Port Orleans will be run by "Best Friends". I'm sure they have a web site. and I'm pretty sure that is the name. We were at WDW last week and drove by. They are making good progress but are not open yet.

Thank you so much. I looked them up and they already exist in the DW area. I found them @ BestFriendsPetcare.com phone #1 888 FOR-PETS. They sound really good they are even helping with the oil spill in terms of the wildlife! They have day boarding, a pet spa, or overnight boarding with a bunch of extras you can add on.

Best Friends Pet Care took over operations of the five existing kennels at WDW a year or so ago.

WOW I didn't realize there were 5 at Disney?? Where are they? know about the one near Ticket and Transportation.

If they are anything like the Best Friends in our town, expect to be nickled and dimed for everything. For example, if your pet takes any meds, we pay $1 for every pill he has to take. The daily cost generally does not include any playtime and we paid another $5 per day (on top of about $60 per day boarding) for 15 minutes of paytime per day. Playtime is letting the dogs out with a few others in a larger room - not outside.

A week there generally costs us close to $600, including the bath he gets at the end.

Now we take our dog to another place called Canine College in Redding CT which is a large farm with dog statues everywhere, beautiful kennels and long walks around the farm every day for about $55 - no cost to give meds. Most of the boarders are either Goldens or Labs and a few horses. Very nice / very professional. Almost like family taking care of your pet.

We take our dog to a place called Happytails Pet Resort here in MD. Well now we have a 8th month old puppy that will be joining her sister for boarding this summer. It is going to cost us 935 to board them for 16 nights this summer. That is putting them in the same indoor/outdoo run. It is a VERY NICE PLACE.....but you do pay extra for Social Play......which I call Puppy Play time. I will pay an extra 14 bucks every other day for them to get an hour of this outside in the playyard with other dogs. We also make sure they get a bath on the day we pick up. It cost 28.50 a day per dog during the summer or peak holiday times. If you board them together then it comes to just under 50 a day. This is a HUGE expense that we need to factored into our budget every year. They do the same thing with meds. Here is the website if you want to check it out. It is a resort alright.

Oh that makes sense....guess they would want one at each of the main parks.

But - after they open the new one they are apparently closing all the others. At least that was the word on the camping boards several weeks ago. So no more taking a quick run out to say hi to your friend or take them for a walk.

This would be terrible! Is there more information on this officially?

Hollywood Studios had the worst greenspace (ie, none at all) but Epcot and Magic Kingdom were not bad; never tried Fort Wilderness or Animal Kingdom.

YIKES! I'm not charging NEARLY enough if that's the going rate! I board extra dogs at my kennel on an "as available" basis, and I only charge $18/day, and I don't care how many meds they need or if they need to have playtime. Heck, I'll even walk them seperately if that's what they require. I would NEVER put dogs together who don't know each other. It's asking for trouble.

We have used the kennels at Epcot and TTC in the past when we combined WDW trips with dog show trips. I didn't realize they were closing the ones at the parks. Too bad, but I suppose they are a bit too small anymore. Either that or not enough people utilize them. Frankly, I leave my dogs at home and have a kennel sitter come in. Costs me over $100 a day, but it's worth it to have them in familiar surroundings.

Just came back and used Best Friends at FW. They gave me a discount for DVC which wasn't that bad. I walked and fed her in the morning, they walked her in the afternoon, I walked and fed her around 5 and they walked her at bedtime. Somedays it was a pain to come back and walk her but no worse then having a small child that you brought back to your resort to rest.

We are in the Northeast where everyone gets scr*wed.

So you fed the dog, not BF????

We take our two pups with us each trip, usually once a month, and they stay at the TTC/MK kennel. The rate with the DVC discount seems reasonable to us, and they love the staff. The rate includes feeding and two walks a day at the MK & EPCOT kennels. We walk our two ourselves because our female is skittish around non-family members and we want to spend some time with them. The staff gets their meals while we're out walking them and they have breakfast or dinner waiting when they come back in.

The kennels do get busy; I make the pups reservation before I make ours. We were there last Saturday thru Monday afternoon, and the kennel was full. We use daycare for check-out day; kennel pick-up is noon otherwise. After check-out, we normally do a park or DTD, and have a late lunch before we pick-up the pups and head home.

The new kennel is slated to open August 26th as of this week, and we're looking forward to it. More room for the pups and indoor-outdoor playspace included with each suite.
