We are going to WDW the last week of October & first week of November. We had reservations at Holiday Inn Family Suites, but will be getting a Maltese puppy this summer and HIFM are not pet friendly.

Does anyone know of a pet friendly hotel with king suites that is close to Disney property?

You might want to try and see if Amerisuites or La Quinta in Lake Buena Vista would work for you. Both are suppose to be pet friendly.

Mainstay Suites is pet friendly--they have a choice of 3 suite sizes (not sure what is meant by a king suite).

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

We decided to go with The La Quinta Inn and Suites Orlando Maingate . They had 2 room King suites that will work out great for us and they don't charge any extra fees for pets under 25 pounds.

The hotel looks nice from the few pictures that I have seen, so I hope it works out well. This will be the first time we as a family have stayed off site.

Thanks again for your help.

What do you plan to do with the puppy while you are out at the parks? Unless you bring a crate along, it could do a lot of damage to the room all alone. Is there anywhere at home where you might board your puppy? Or anyone who could puppysit for you?

you take your animal with you - all theme parks in Orlando (WDW, us/ioa and SW) have kennels for day access - I think they all charge $6.

Will your airline allow you take your pet? Will your pet be comfortable with a long car ride? Will your pet be any happier being kenneled or crated in Orlando as opposed to back home?

NOT SURE OF THE ANSWERS FOR YOUR PET BUT many pet owners make arrangements to leave their pets home. Have a friend watch them or kennel. Something to consider.

As others have mentioned, this is not a vacation for your pet. But the choice is yours. You do need to contact the hotel directly and confirm the entire pet policy. Many hotels will not clean your room without you being present if you have a pet in your room. Obviously, you will have to keep your dog crated while you are out of the room. I would call the hotel to confirm the policy.

Boy - Spicey goes with me everywhere and we both have a good time - the one time he flew (Northwest) - he enjoyed it - I did not - but I really HATE to fly....

Delta considers him luggage - he is not!!!!

Southwest won't let him fly period.

Oh I pay $110 tickets for us - he cost $90 one way - so I spend more for his tickets than ours....and he did not get a seat....he traveled under the seat in front of me - I asked everyone around me if anyone was allergic to cats - they weren't.

He was entertainment to the children in front. He thought everyone was there to see him!!! So he had a good time.

I prefer to drive - I get to stop when and where I want - and because of the current schedules it does not really take that much longer.

However I was little upset - the crew did not know he was on board until we left - he is in a pet carrier that is fine for airplanes - won't work for the luggage but fine for on the plane.

So I was glad he was on the plane - if he had been in luggage I am not sure they would have know and he could have possible died.

Thanks for all of your comments...

My whole family is coming with us for the trip, so I don't have anyone to leave her with (and don't want to leave her).

We will be driving, so no need to worry about airplane travel. And we do take frequent breaks when driving down, because we have a toddler.

The puppy will be in her crate in the hotel while we are not there. It will not be left for very long times, because we don't get up and out very early, and we always take a break in the day.

This makes more sence to me to have her in the room with us whenever we are there, rather then have her in an unfamilier place (such as a kennel surrounded by dogs and people that she does not know).

We have never traveled with a dog, but I am told by other Maltese owners that they travel everywhere with their dogs and have a great time. I hope we have a similar experience.

Thanks again for your help.

Valerie,

Just some suggestions about traveling with the dog. When you get the pup this summer, try to drive around with him/her in the car at least once a week to get it use to the motion of the car. If the pup seems to be getting car sick, talk to your vet. Some vets won't prescribe anything until a pup is of a certain age. I would also make sure your pup has all it's shots and that you bring a copy of the shots on the vets letterhead or invoice receipt just in case you need it for anything.

Kylara, Thanks for the advice!

We will be doing a lot of day trips and trips down the shore this summer, so we should have an idea as to how she travels.

Also, great tip on bringing copies of all of the puppies records. I'll be sure to do that.

Thanks!
