Hi all,

Can you tell me about your experience with using a pet-friendly hotel nearby Disneyland? For example, was there quick and easy access outside your room to go for walks, are there stairs nearby, is there a grassy area nearby for potties, and how noisy was it?

My husband and I brought our dog, Slinky, along with us for a 3 night mid-May trip. We stayed in a 1-bedroom suite at the Residence Inn at the Convention Center. The room was great (quiet, large, we turned on 1 of the TV's for ambient noise, etc), but we did not have super quick/easy access to outdoors for frequent walks. We were on the 3rd or 4th floor (I requested a low level). It turns out my dog is super scared of elevators, so we would take him down a set of stairs to go outside, but then we'd either carry him into the elevator to go up OR text each other to meet near the exterior stairs entrance. The stairs are kept locked from the outside which added that complication.

We are debating where out dog would be happiest for our next trip which will be 3-4 nights. We could:
1) Bring him along and find a hotel with quick/easy access to outdoors for him. He enjoys sleeping in the bed with us and generally being around us, but I feel bad when I leave him for a few hours. Note that I generally visit the parks from 8-12, then 5-9, or so. I spend the afternoon at the hotel with him and we get plenty of walkies in. I bought a pricey Gunner Kennel for our last drive to DL so he's super safe in the car.
2) Send him to his usual doggie daycare with overnight boarding, although he gets unhappy doing overnights there and he doesn't eat much which concerns us. I don't think he'd enjoy 3-4 nights there to be honest.
3) Hire a petsitter for our home so he could stay at home all day with access to sunbathing in our yard, etc. I've already reached out to a few professional sitters- some are full and not accepting new clients, and one lady is non-responsive. We have a friend who comes by to cat sit (she's not a dog person) so this would be nice to have 1 person watch all the fur kids.

Sorry to get off topic, but please let me know your thoughts about local pet-friendly hotels!

There is a nice Marriott hotel close by and all Marriott hotels are pet friendly. The new Renaissance may be as well. I stayed at the Marriott once for work and it was nice enough (I ran in the mornings) for dog walks with sidewalks, garden type areas etc.

I personally travel with our dog a lot (Cavalier King Charles) - you know your dog best!

The Clementine Hotel and Suites is pet friendly. Easy access to grass. We love that Residence Inn, but if your dog can't acclimate to elevators, that will be difficult at a lot of the pet friendly hotels.

Which exact Marriott property are you referring to? I understand that the Fairfield and Courtyard do not accept pets (boo!), but I believe the fancy newer properties do allow pets such as JW Marriott and the Westin. Thanks!

Thank you! My parents and I stayed there in December 2010 (my last trip before the May 2021 one, believe it or not!), but back then it was owned by Marriott and called a Residence Inn. You know what, the 1-bedroom suites looks really nice...I like that there's no elevators, looks like a lot of grass nearby, hmm- it might be a great contender! Thank you!

Thanks to everyone for chiming in! For now, I have decided to go with the Hotel Indigo. :)

I got somewhat obsessed with this subject yesterday, and I was calling around to different pet-friendly hotels to see if they have rooms on the first floor. The big hotels did not- they mostly had retail or conference rooms on the first floor, and guest rooms began on the second floor. This was the case for the Home2Suites by Hilton, the SpringHill Suites by Marriott at Convention Center, and of course the Residence Inn at Convention Center where we already stayed. Google mistakenly told me that Hyatt House at the Convention Center was pet friendly but it's a lie! I called them since their rooms looks nice, but they are NOT pet friendly and I'm pretty sure they have retail on the first floor.

I looked into other places like the Clementine Hotel & Suites (the recent murder and iffy reviews turned us off, although it was fine in 2010 when it was a Residence Inn), and Candlewood Suites Anaheim (cheap prices but recent iffy reviews- drug deals nearby, etc). But those didn't go on the top of my list.

Anyways, after a lot of looking around, I discovered that the Hotel Indigo is the perfect fit for us. They are pet friendly and have rooms- including 1-bedroom suites- on the first floor. The pet fee is somewhat reasonable at $100, but there is free parking so that helps negate the pet fee. The walk to the park is similar to the other Convention Center hotels at the corner of Katella and Harbor.

The best part is that I found a YouTube video of a gal who stayed at a 1-bedroom suite on the first floor, and the room is located at the end of a hallway, and it takes up the length of the building. So you have a lot of privacy and hopefully a quiet space. Some reviews said the Hotel Indigo had thin walls, but having a corner room will help out with this. This particular room only shares the bedroom wall with 1 other unit from what I can see. So I submitted a request for this exact room this morning! This hotel gets great reviews overall so I feel pretty happy with this choice. :)

on Westin's website it says that pets are not allowed

We haven’t stayed at the Hotel Indigo in Anaheim, but stayed at one of their other locations with our dog and had a very positive experience.

We just returned from our 3 night stay at the Hotel Indigo Anaheim! It went well, and the ground floor room made such a difference for multiple, easy walks for my dog. We got a 1-bedroom suite that had extra space so that was nice. I only spent a few hours in the park each day, and I walked my dog a ton. :) The hot tub was never busy at night too which was a bonus!
