Pet Airways

I saw this on Good Morning America last week and the airline (Pet airways) is already sold out! They have been receiving tons of people trying to make reservations, but booked solid. Sounds like they are doing good so far. They showed the inside of the plane and it looked cute with all the kennels lined up.

I saw it on the news tonight. If I had to take my kitty to L.A. I might book her on one of those flights. She's a real mewser. She will meow non-stop for 10 hours straight, so I cannot take her on board a flight with me in the cabin. A fellow passenger would strangle her, if I didn't myself. :headache: No WAY would I let a plane put her below in the unpressurized cargo area at freezing temps for 6 hours.

I do worry about this airline using the same carriers over and over. I'd probably have to get my kitty vacinated for feline leukemia. We'd prefer not to as that is known to cause dangerous complications in cats. But, what if they put her in a carrier which had just housed a cat that has feline leukemia. I'd be worried about contamination.

I would imagine they'd be all sterilized between use, right? :confused3

My dream would be an option for a few seats along with those carriers. I'd still be nervous. Maybe it's just me.

I think you can bring your own carrier, if you have one, or use one of theirs. I assume they require all the major vaccine requirements as found in kennels and doggie daycare centers.

I think it's a great concept, traveling with my dog riding in cargo is NOT acceptable to me and this avoids that. It does make me nervous having them flying somewhere else, esp with an overnight stay in the middle.

Reality is that they don't fly in my area and the only thing that would require us to fly our pups is a major move, in which driving with them would be okay. I can see it really filling a need for some people though.

I hope it's successful and that they can widen their service area!

Wha-at? Where does it say there is an overnight stay in the middle? I'm not leaving my at with anyone overnight. NY to L.A. is a 6 hour flight.

I am worried that they say they give the animals potty breaks. If they don't use separate disposable litter boxes for each kitty on board, there is another area for cross-contamination. I don't want my cat going in a communal litter box. :scared:

I don't think feline Leukemia is one of the required vaccinations for cats before traveling. I think only rabies & distemper is. My vet told me different kennels require it while others don't while boarding cats.

Me too. I'm neurotic enough as it is. :rolleyes1 I've flown with Ruby many many times, and she is so good! I would rather continue to do that and have her with me.

But this is a great idea for those animals that aren't good in their tiny carriers for a long period of time, or for those bigger dogs who can't fit underneath the seat in front of you in a little carrier! I would NEVER allow any pet to fly with the cargo though!! Anything to prevent that!

Ugh! I just found the page where animals have an overnite layover.

Sorry not MY kitty. The last thing I need is to go searching for her in Chicago. Less stops, the less she's let out, the less chance of things happening to her or her getting lost.
