I was at the mall the other day waiting for a hair cut for one of my kids, and saw this mom and son (at least that's what I'm assuming they were) walking together. The son (who appeared to be about 9 or 10)had on a shirt that said "Will trade parents for video game". I have seen those shirts with sarcastic sayings on them and I think they are funny. My DS11 has a few of them.

But what caught my attention was the mom had on a tee shirt that said "Will trade kids for a day at the spa". Now THAT I had never seen before and I have to say it had me cracking up!! I thought it was great. :teeth:

They were walking into a video game store (next to the salon) and had a few bags with them, obviously been out shopping. They seemed to just be spending a fun day together and had probably worn the shirts as a joke or to poke fun at each other. That's the sort of thing I'd do with one if my kids.

Anyways these two other ladies were waiting next to me and had apparently seen the shirts as well and proceeded to talk about how rude and inappropriate the shirts were. How it wasn't funny and how it was no wonder that some kids today have no respect for their parents. They were just really coming down hard on the mom.

I was so surprised to hear all this. Of course I didn't say anything, but it made me wonder if this was such a big deal? I just thought it was funny. Does anyone else see this as being inappropriate? :confused3

I was just laughing reading it so I guess I found it funny... I wonder what my kid will want to trade me for in 10 years or so? Makes you wonder.

I think it is funny. You know, people don't have to take everything so serious!

I almost bought these for my kids the other day - some of them I don't like and wouldn't buy - but I thought these two together would have been cute. Unfortunately, didn't have the sizes I needed.

DD8 - FOR SALE! My brother! CHEAP!

DS4 - You can have my sister!

Those ladies need to get a life!!

The mom out spending the day with her son shopping.............spending time together!! Nuff said!

Some people need to learn to shut their traps!

A DAY at the spa??? How about an hour massage???????? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I love both shirts. And I would wear the mom's!

I have a shirt that says "I'd trade my van by the river for a day with no kids"...lol...does that make me a bad person? Perhaps I should poll...lol

I'm kind of lucky, my daughter's dad is very much a part of her life (now) and she kind of bounces back between our houses depending on which friends she wants to hang with that particular day...(I found out this morning that she HAD to go to dad's because so and so was getting a new DVD that she HAD to watch) The tone of her voice when I didn't recognize the name of the movie actually had me rolling...man..i am soooooooooooo not hip anymore...lol

Anyway, if you want my opinion, I would say that those women were just plain rude..they haven't lived until they've lived in a van by the river, stolen power and computer hookup from a local business, and shoplifted from walmart...lol

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend Momma!! Your posts always make me smile.

:teeth: I just had to say that my DS11 has one that says "will trade sister for video game". I had bought it for him awhile ago.
Then not long ago in Target I saw a girls shirt that said "you can have my brother". Of course I had to buy that for DD9.

When DS saw his sister's new shirt he said "Yeah, but at least I get a video game in return for her."
My poor DD is not very quick with the comebacks so I stepped in and said "Well, according to her shirt she doesn't want anything in return for you. She's willing to just give you away!"

That had them both cracking up. :rotfl2:

Anyways, it was all in fun and I just didn't think a simple t-shirt was something to get all worked up about. Glad to see some others agree.

I think it's funny and that those women need to get a life!

I think it is especially cute and even touching since they were together, enjoying the afternoon, obviously sharing in the joke on their shirt. I could maybe understand someone being concerned if they just saw a mom wearing the shirt with no kid or if the kid didnt have a shirt on (thinking that oh I hope that doesnt hurt their dc's feelings) but since the kid was OBVIOUSLY in on the joke, enjoying it, and sharing it with his mother, that is just awesome! I will be happy with any joke ds and I can share during the preteen years, and if I can get him to go shopping with me, what a bonus! :teeth:

Pic!! Pic!! We want a pic of you in that tee!! :teeth:

Be careful or I'm going to have to have one made for you that says "Will trade van AND kids for a Wal-mart shopping spree". :thumbsup2

Yes, the week-end had been good, but the better news is that it's almost over and the little monsters....I mean precious angels will soon be back in school. ;)

:thumbsup2 ITA with everything you said here!

Come on you guys. It's not like these women approached this mother and son and told them this.

True.
Of course they were being very loud in their comments and not only did myself and my DS hear all they had to say so did everyone else who was there waiting at the salon.
While they have a right to their opinions it would've been nicer if they'd been a tad quieter.

I think they were funny. I wouldn't wear a shirt like that, but I still think it's funny.

I think it's funny...but I want mine to say weedend...not just a day!

My oldest DD has a shirt that says..."be nice to your sister, you never know when you'll need an alibi"

OK, so I laughed at the saying on each shirt.

BUT

I wouldn't wear a shirt like that, nor let one of the kids wear anything like that either. Honestly, I don't think they'd want to do that. DS just came into the room I'm in and told me he wouldn't wear anything that would condescend to me, his Dad or his sister.

I treasure every moment I spend with my kids and I wouldn't trade them for anything... even a day at the spa. Heck, if I felt strongly about going to the spa, I'd take my DD with me while DS and his Dad did something together.

I hope there are no underlying issues with their relationship that they'd want to disrespect each other publicly like that.

I once had a shirt that said "Now that I'm a Mom, I understand why some animals eat their young". I thought it was funny.
