Wouldn't it be nice if they could sell things, like the other pavilions do!, that are actually made in America?
It drives me nuts!!!

I go to England and can find things made in England.
Same with France, Norway, Mexico......

I know, that's the way America is but arrgghhh....!!!
The American pavilion isn't Target.
There are no sweatshirts, teeshirts and keychains to be found that have "Made in America" labels on them?
It's supposed to be a representation of America.

Wait, I think I just answered my own question.
Nevermind.
Sad.

I thought I was the only one who got irked over things like that. I once bought a baseball hat at a fundraiser for the VFW, and it had a "Made in China" label inside of it. <sigh> I guess they can't sell made in America T-shirts and stuff like that since I don't think any more are made in America but there is still plenty of folk art type things that are made here.

That bothered me as well. Another pet peeve of mine is that they have no restaurant other than the fast food sit down restaurant. You think they could have a restaurant similar to LTT in the MK featuring American foods. Oh well, I guess that IS what America is all about, Fast food and products made everywhere but America...smjj

Last August we purchased official USA olympic apparel for my DD at the American gift shop in Epcot. Would you believe the ROOTS clothing the athletes wore was made in China?

That bothered me a bit, I must admit!

And did you know that ROOTS is a Canadian company?

I guess I'm not bothered by the 'lack' of options at the American Pavillion. The rest of the World, minus the WS, is about as American as you can get. I think the whole issue of products being made outside the USA is a bigger topic, but not one that I would hash out on the Theme Parks board.

My biggest problem with the American Pavillion is that everytime I've gone to see the attraction, it's been shut down. :( Maybe next time!

At least your attraction represents your country past the late 70s.

I'm Canadian and was embarrassed by the film O Canada. It's very dated. We don't all wear bad sheepskin jackets and have crooked teeth and long hair.

I've never really cared about the shops issue, as I dont do much shopping at Disney.

However the restraunt issue above has bothered me.

I think that everywhere you go, it is hard to find souvenirs that both reflect the place you were visiting and were made in the place you were visiting.

Several years ago I was in Hawaii. Almost all of the "Hawaiian" gifts were made in places like Taiwan or the Philippines, even West Germany.

I LOVE the film "Oh, Canada". We've seen it both times that we went to WDW and I want to see it again. I don't remember anything about people with bad teeth, long hair. I just remember the beautiful scenery and animals. Maybe I'm a sucker for the 360 degree films. No, wait, I saw the China film and once was enough. :teeth:

I was actually just saying that I wish the America Pavillion had an American "fine dining" restuarant. Everything in the US is not chicken fingers and french fries. There is SOME culture. :)

I see you on this thread. :teeth: My DH and I are still laughing about your post to that other  thread. I hope you are amused, as well. Funniest thing I've read on these boards. :rotfl2:

Not only that, it's the same chicken fingers you find all throughout walt Disney world. there's nothing unique to it, not even unique within WDW.

Not much American pride in our own products anymore!!!! We have become a nation of imports!!!! :sad2:

I know you're talking about not what is sold but where it is made, but could there be something other than colonial stuff? What would you put in there?

The food situation is depressing in America WS. I ask the same question, that is "American" food? Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks? Mmmm... Starbcks  that's not a bad idea. What else? Sloppy Joe's, fried chicken, cheesesteaks...?

The American Adventure isn't very adventurous, that's for sure.

Here's one way to spin the "Made in China" thing -- chances are it was U.S. capital that enabled stuff to be made in China.

Small consolation.

I've often wondered why they dont update the films in both the Canada and Mexico Pavillions - surely the technology is there now to make it a cheaper endeavour. As far as the globalization of America- that is way too big of a bite for this thread -needless to say I agree as I will soon be "outsourced" for cheaper labor in faraway lands... :sad2:

While visiting Maine one year I walked past a gift shop where all of the items were actually made in Maine.. They had the neatest sign in the window:

"Why visit Maine and bring home souveniers from Taiwan?" :rotfl:

Good restaurant idea..

I live in philadelphia and we have a 18th century restaurant that serves 18th century food and beer the way it was back then. Infact...the place is located in an historic building (same look they have in Epcot). So historic, that the restaurant was not allowed to install refrigerators. So all the food is very fresh. The waitresses and waiters dress in 18th century cloths. The tables and chairs look 18th century as well. The place is lit only with candles....well you get the picture. That could be the perfect type of place for Epcot.

No you're right.
And I like the Colonial stuff too.
But there *are* still clothing manufactures in the USA that could supply at least 1 souvenier shop and teeshirt cart at the American Pavilion.
(At least until the tariffs with China end this year and they are all run out of business.)
I'm a realist.
I understand it's all about $$ but this one little area called "America" in the World Showcase is 95% China and it's NOT like that in the other "countries".

How about a Thanksgiving type of dinner/lunch?
Hot turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes cranberry sauce and mix it up with some regional favorites like corn bread stuffing and such.
There's a restaurant called Boston Market in my area that does all this very nicely in a buffet style line with trays.
Add chocolate/vanilla shakes and softserve icecream and
 *God Bless America!*

Raise the damn price if Disney wants but anything is better than the overcooked hamburgers and cold french fries they have now.
