Person Selling GAC's on Ebay!

Hi...I am brand new to the forums, but have been reading this one, and I happened across a listing on Ebay for a GAC. I didn't even know what they were, and came here searching for info, when I stumbled across this thread.

Glad I found out before bidding!

I can't seem to make a link work here, but just go to ebay.com, and type in the item number in the search box

230116030742

I wish us all luck!
That one is still there. Come on people! Let's get on with reporting it!

It's still there now.
I reported it to both ebay and Disney and hope they do something about this.

Things like this are one of the reasons that I tried for many years to keep specific information about GACs off the DIS Boards. It got to a point where I could not police and remove all the posts, so that was when I wrote the GAC information we have on the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

Just for anyone who sees the auction, be very aware that the GAC is issued to a specific person with a disability and says right on the card that it is not meant to shorten or eliminate waits in line. It suggests getting a FASTPASS if you need/want to do that.

ADDED NOTE: When you hit the "Report this item to ebay", you get what looks like an email box that you can type into. It actually only lets you put the item number in, not any text. So, hopefully, someone looks at the actual item with a little curiousity about why it actually was reported.

I filled out their stupid form to report it but I also went to customer support because you can explain what you want done. This is what I said if anyone else wants to do the same.

I'm trying to report an item but don't know which of the options to select. This item 230116030742 is a guest assistance pass that Disney gives people with disabilities that need assistance in the parks. This should be an illegal trade. Please help the disabled population by stopping this seller and others from listing Disney Guest Assistance Cards or GAC's as they are known.

Thank you for forwarding this to the appropriate place to end this auction.

Disney has a way of blocking these items even if eBay doesn't block them first.

Simple, just bid in a manner that is guaranteed to win. Then they get the address of the seller via the invoice, but also decide to be non-paying bidders.

I once saw that procedure done (not sure whether the actual winner was Disney related) with a Song of the South (Disney film) bootleg video.

Disney hints: http://members.aol.com/ajaynejr/disney.htm

Disney probably has other ways of dealing with improperly obtained GAC's, some of which have not been imagineered yet. For example:
1. Have the holder show ID.
2. Scan a barcode on the GAC.

Disney can't automatically block them. They can request that ebay remove the listing, but they can't just block it.

Doing something like that is against ebay rules. When you bid on something, you are entering a legal contact to buy it. To bid on it in the way that was mentioned is fraudulent.

Thosee would be possibilities, but to require ID or scan a barcode every time the GAC is used would be to put an undue burden on the person using it (plus would mean extra barcoding stations at each place it might be looked at).

Thanks.
I had looked for a way to do that, but all I found was the way that I mentioned. I'll go back and send another report.

ALSO: NOTE TO POSTERS

PLEASE DO NOT GET INTO DICUSSION ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL EBAY SELLER OF THESE ITEMS.
JUST REPORT THE SALE AND/OR DISCUSS BETTER WAYS TO REPORT IT LIKE MICHIGAN DID.

The selling of GAC's is just unethical on so many levels. I visit on this board and don't have anyone in my family who needs one, but feel for those who do, the selling of this item is disgraceful.

Thank you Michigan for allowing us to use the above listing to report this behavior to Ebay. I did report it as well and hope as the other was removed, this one will be too.

God Bless,

I reported both of the listings to Ebay. The first one was removed by the lister (btw, she has since changed her ebay name maybe because of so many complaints?). The other is still up and when I politely asked why he was selling a GAC, his response was...I am selling a index card to anyone who wishes to purchase it.
Other than that I would suggest you leave me be.

Apparently, it's not against Ebay's policy.

Wouldn't this new listing still be considered fraudulent? In the title it claims the listing is a fastpass and not a GAC, then later states that it allows you to go through fastpass, which is not true of many GACs. The claim of it drastically reducing wait times is also not accurate as in Kilimanjaro (and other rides) the wait time would be longer on days when the regular queue is short and the GAC user has to wait on the wheelchair users jeep (even when not in w/c).

Grasping at straws, I know. Ebay would take it down if it is fraudulent and could the reasons above be viable and used? I just had a look at the ebay section of reporting and wondered what category to assign it to.

On a side note, last time I emailed and called Disney, but since I am on the other side of the pond, it might be good if someone else can call Disney, as they seemed glad to be told of what was happening. If enough people call then they may have someone regularily police ebay for listings like this (like the way they have people research Disney based websites to see if new rides are liked/disliked).

It is just a thought. I can't believe that this is happening so soon after the last one. It is very worrying. I just don't want to see it taken away from the people who need it. I, for one, wouldn't be able to go to Disney without the help the GAC provides and although it is only a few bad apples at the moment, if not enough is done now, it could be that the only way to stop it happening would be to stop all GACs. I hope this listing is taken down soon.

I reported it under the following classification:
Listing Violations > Prohibited (banned items) > Offensive and potentially offensive items > Items produced by or linked to disastrous or tragic events

As many disabilities are linked to tragic events, such as a car accident, not all of course, but there are enough that is was the most plausible one to use.

Well I just reported it to Disney as well, hopefully we can put a stop to this before it gets out of hand and Disney has to change the system again.

I reported it yesterday afternoon--got the canned reply from Ebay. But the listing is still there this morning :sad2:

I've reported it too, I just hope they start to crack down on this more heavily to stop it from happening in the future :sad2: .

Disney is going to have to start adding the statement that it's illegal to sell or trade on the GAC to help stop some of it.

Good, I am just afraid that we are going to have to keep doing regular searches on these and report them, the problem is if we link back to the item on here and it has a photo in the item would that be the same as posting a picture of one?

I take it GACs don't have dates on them? It seems to me that Disney should issue them for the length of the eligible person's trip and then have them expire so people can't give them away or try to sell them. That would make the most sense to me.

:cutie: In March our daughter'sprincess: GAC was dated for the length of our stay-and the CM's checked it at each attraction.:bride: :grouphug:

They are all dated and have the name of the person. We have never used one without the CM studying it pretty carefully.

Thanks to everyone for their help in getting it pulled.

I posted this on the other thread that involved ebay and GACs as well, thinking it was this one, I thought it should be posted on, if someone wants to delete the other one, go for it:

I reported this directly to Disney (though their contact us form on their website) when this happened the second time around, as the first time it was removed by the seller, anyway I just got a PHONE CALL from Disney World Executive Offices thanking me for reporting it and they have taken care of it from there and are apparently now working with ebay to ensure this doesn't keep happening.

Just thought you all might like to know.

Also, I am not sure what happened to the rest of this thread, I know there were more posts than this on this subject.
