what could be the cause of having persistant nausea? At first I thought it was just a bug, but I have been feeling nauseous for about 3 weeks now. It kind of comes and goes, not consistant. And no, I am not pregnant!

I am trying to lose weight, however, I do eat enough food, so I know it's not me starving myself!

How do you know your not pregnant? Just a question.
I know we had a bug going around that made us feel nauseas for a while but it didn't last that long.

Hey there!! I am the queen of stomach issues!;)

Anyway, for me, persistant nausea was my first and only sign of acid reflux disease (or GERD). Also, when my stomach "flares up" I get nausea.

I recently found out, through endoscopy, that I have gastritis. I had been having nausea off and on and that's really about it.

My guess is that you've got some type of irritation of your stomach. If it is mild, you could try some Prilosec OTC for 2 weeks or some Pepcid AC or something. Do it consistently for 2 weeks. See if you can get it go clear up. If it keeps happening, then check with your doctor because if it is GERD, you don't want to let it go.

Any pain near the right side of your ribcage?

I've been nauseated since December (and definitely not pregnant)... my gastrointerologist thinks there's something wrong with my gallbladder...

thanks! I'll try the Prilosec! It's this nausea, pukey feeling that I get! But I never actually throw up! I work in the office of an elementary school and I deal with sick kids every day, so I thought I just caught a bug or something! But it's just strange that it's been going on for so long! I do have a cold (cough, runny nose)!

gosh, I hope it's not the gallbladder! No pain near my ribcage though so I hope that's a good sign!

well, I have been drinking more water! I hate water but have been forcing myself to drink my 8 glasses a day! So yes, I have been cutting back on caffeine because I used to suck down diet coke, and now I won't allow myself to have even one until I am done with my 8 glasses of water! I heard it can cause headaches which I have had the first few days, but never heard of it causing nausea! :confused3

it's actually a chain reaction... the headaches cause nausea...

Having a cold/cough can mess with your inner ear and cause you to feel nauseated. I'd try something like Dramamine and see if that helps take the nausea away. It could just be an inner ear thing being messed with because you have a cold.

It could also be caused by stress *even if you don't realize you are stressed*

You could have an ulcer that makes you nauseated even without pain

You could have the beginnings of gallstones, gallbladder attack or a number of other reasons. The best thing for you to do would be to schedule an appt with a gastro doc.

Hope you can figure it out soon. I hate that feeling!

I get hormonal migraines that cause persistent nausea. I also started taking probiotics nightly and realized after a week that it was what was causing me nightly intense nausea.

been about 15 years since my wife had persistent nausea, doctor said it was caused becuase we went to sleep without underwear.

OMG - You sound just like me. I have been nauseous probably a dozen times a week for the last 12 years. It started around 7th grade, and at the time, I had every test in the book done and nothing was ever determined. I know that stress will always cause a flare-up, as will garlic, but there are still many a time that I can't find a source/reason. Any medication/anything else you have found to help???

Just because you had your period doesn't mean your not pregnant......
Are you on any new medications or vitamins? That can cause nausea.

As a frequent dieter, I can tell you some of the problems I've had with nausea.

1) vitamins on an empty stomach...ICK. Take your multivitamin at nighttiime.
2) not enough starchy food. If your body has been used to a ton of starches and you have cut back to little or none, you might try sprinkling those starches throughout the day.
3) empty stomach If you have ever read Geneen Roth's books about dieting, you will learn that there is a scale of hunger--10 being the most full to 1 being starving to the point of death. When you first start dieting, you don't really know how to gauge hunger, and you get to the point of nausea very quickly without ever having had your first growl. My suggestion is to go and read her books and attend a seminar if possible. The book I would start with is "Feeding the Hungry Heart".
4)Not enough protein sugars give you a quick burst of energy; proteins give you sustained energay.

I sometimes get Nausea when I'm PMSing

Good Luck
