Persistant Infection in Leg

And a "friend" calling a colleague, ie another doctor, and saying, "I have this employee who has a terrible looking leg that doesn't seem to be responding to current treatment. She has a doctor, and will see an ID next month, but I'm concerned that it may be too late. Any opinions? Can I send her over to see you?" would not constitute malpractice, nor would it violate any confidentiality. Your boss is NOT your physician, which is why she cannot treat you. BUT, she can still, as a friend, and with your permission, talk to another doctor about your case.

Of course, I'm not sure that someone who would expect or allow you to come to work a couple of days after a hospital discharge, and in contradiction to another physician's discharge orders, is much of a friend - or doctor.

Exactly right. The boss could treat her if it were mutually agreed upon between the patient and the boss but she probably wouldn't be paid by the insurance company and obviously she is a pediatrician so her skills lie elsewhere. I am just mentioning this because there is no 'rule' that prohibits a physician from treating their family members or their employers if all parties agree.

I have been a lurker pretty much up till now.....but I have to chime in! I think this pretty much got away from the OP. I don't think that she expected such a big 'deal' to be made of this. Once people started giving their opinions, she probably started liking the attention.

By this point, the leg is probably getting better or she would have done something about it. Now it's a matter of letting this go. The leg is probably better, and OP is not ready to let it go. Nothing else makes much sense. Doctors do not conduct themselves in this manner. If the leg was bad, her boss would intervene, not make her work some more! That is the reason to sue, if she did! That in itself would be malpractice! You don't expect an employee to work, when she has an obvious bone infection! She would have been sent to the ER or at least home (with plans on seeing a doctor immediately).

I truley hope that the OP gets this under control, whatever "it" is.

Beth

But I think that you have to treat them as a new patient, ie, start a chart, do a history and physical, make notes, etc. At least in my state. :confused3

But there is no rule against advice, or interceeding on a friend/family member/employee's behalf. It's done all the time. ;)

I agree. One should document correctly anyone they treat.

X-ray negative....labs are normal.....gotta wear a compression stocking until it's better. I have to see ID and Rheumatology. Basically, my leg is battling left overs from the infection and the waste products, gravity, my weight, the heat, and just plain old bad luck are making the leg still look bad. I got a new pain killer and a compression stocking. Hopefully, things will resolve soon. Maggie

since you INSIST on putting your weight on it did they at least give you crutches..

Glad to know you are on the mend Maggie. :)

With all due respect to everyone that has posted here or lurked with concern, I thank you. I NEVER expected or suspected that this thread would have turned into the massive big deal that it has become.

According to my doctor, I am on the mend and that is all I have wanted all along was the peace of mind of knowing that the way that it looked was really nothing more than what it is.....no big deal. With the results that I got today, I have that. I will follow up with the specialists, as advised by Dr. O. I am going to return to full work days next week as authorized by Dr. O.

The pain meds that I was given today have already started to make a HUGE difference in how I feel. Dr. O picked a great NSAID to help with my symptoms. I have been assured that I should be able to go on our vacation in 10 weeks and enjoy it to the fullest, which is absolutely the best news that I heard all day!

Again, I would like to thank everyone that prayed for me and tried to hold my hand when I needed it. But, it is time to move along and let this thread die. I am on the mend and that is exactly what I have wanted all along. I am extremely lucky that this is the outcome that I have been blessed with. I know that there were a lot of far less desirable scenarios that could have been my fate. So, let me just go ahead and issue one last :grouphug: and I am going to call it a day. Maggie

Maggie, I do hope you post after you see the ID and Rhumatoid Drs for those of us that would like the complete story.

I was just checking to see how the OP is doing? I am hoping things are much better!!!! Are you better OP????
