For any of you who are inclined to gaze at the heavens (and don't have heavy cloud cover in the area), tonight is an ideal time to look for "shooting stars"... The Perseids will peak between 2am and dawn Thursday, but plenty should be visible prior to that.

So find a spot outside of the city, spread a blanket on the ground and gaze away!

Wow! It is 10 already. I'll have to go out and look around. Hopefully, no clouds.

Still too many clouds around here, but it looks to be thinning out. Hope I don't end up staying up too late for it ;)

I saw 4 last night sitting in our hot tub! Dh didn't believe me! LOL! He does now and will be joining me in the hot tub tonight!:teeth:

Not looking good for tonight around here. Too cloudy. I'll try early in the morning :)

Not a cloud in the sky and I still didn't see any. Just looked for 10 minutes. Guess I'll go out at 2:00AM.

Almost everybody has clouds and here I am, the calm before the storm (Charley) and not a cloud up there. Latest track still has him coming in almost over the top of our house. Bet I'll be seeing 0 stars Friday unless I get hit by a flying 2x4.

We saw 6 within about 15 minutes time!!! Neat! Wish I didnt need to sleep...I would watch for more!:p

I'm staying up to see them since we're clear tonight. I hope for a good show. :)

No meteors... just a lot of clouds this morning as well. Hope others had a better show!

Hope everyone in Bonny's/Charlie's paths are taking all precautions.

Jeff,
I went out last night and saw three trailing meteors grace the sky going from north to west. It was truly amazing, considering the amount of cloud coverage. I was out after midnight, but I didn't make it up to 2:00 am.

You have to have a really good lounge chair that will lie flat, to make it easier to see anything. Or a beach blanket, but then you'll be closer to the bugs.

It was too cloudy for my telescope. The telescope really can't be used for meteor shower watching, anyway.

:D

I also saw one UFO ( probably a plane or helicopter);) too. The clouds really started to move in by then.

I'll probably check space.com to see if anyone posted any pictures.

Star gazing is so fun. It can really transport one out of their daily existence. It gives us so many possibilities! So many potential "worlds" out there......

Just FYI, last night was the peak, but we should be able to still see meteors for maybe a week or so from the Perseids. So with any luck, the clouds will disperse and we'll still get a decent show :)

minniepumpernickel, what I really need is a good lounge chair for my back deck. Glad you got to see at least a few meteors! If I can get a few pictures in the next couple nights, I'll post some. No promises though.

There's another chance to see them tonight but they are forecasting heavy showers. It was cloudy here last night too. :(
