Permit Test

I have to take my Learner's Permit Test soon, hopefully this weekend. To those who have taken it, what is the experience like? I have heard that the test itself is easy, but that I shouldn't go in unprepared. Is there a site with all the information that they can quiz me on?

You can pick up a booklet that will help you prepare for the test at the RMV or DMV. The tests differ. Some people have easy ones...you know, ones like road signs and the more evident questions such as what do you do when someone is crossing the road...lol.

Don't over think the questions. They are as they are...not trick questions that seem easy but are actually hard...there is none of that. Pure black and white when it comes to the permit test.

I had a test that was filled with fines. I was happy as heck that I studied because I was able to know what the fines were for some really obscure things rofl.

They give you, what, 25 minutes? 20 minutes? Something like that. Most people finish withint 5-10 minutes without even realizing it lol.

My computer thing shut off on me and I was so afraid something happened. Then, about 15 seconds later this message came up saying that I needed to go see the desk for processing or something like that. Then I realized I had passed rofl. The computers shut off after you have answered the required amount correct.

DO NOT worry about it! I cannot stress that enough lol. I know a lot of people naturally get nervous over it, but believe me...it isn't as hard as it may seem...and I think I got a pretty difficult version considering what I hear from others...lol.

GOOD LUCK!! i took this test over the summer and only got 1 wrong. my test was like 20 multiple choice [if even that many] and then a whole bunch of road signs....the roadsigns were super easy. If you hvae a good idea of the rules you should be fine. I would suggest studing from a driving rules bookletfrom your DMV, thats what i did, and it helped so much. I'm sure youll do fine! good luck!!

It's a good thing you're in CT because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to put the link. Those sample tests helped me out a bit.

You should still read the booklet though. I really didn't need to because I was in driver's ed at the time so we had pretty much covered most of it.

Most of it's common sense, but some of it can be tricky.

Im a procrastinator and haven't gotten a booklet or taken the test, and im 15!! I need to get on it or I wont be able to get my license when Im 16. In Iowa we also have to take drivers ed in order to get your license when your 16.

Things work differently in the UK it appears, so could you clear this up for me. Is this a test you must take to LEARN to drive?

I am currently learning to drive now. It was weird since I started driving than after 4 or 5 weeks my driving instructor had a stroke. (Yes, I know the joke. "It was me that did it..." ) and then I had no driving, until about 8 weeks ago in which I got to drive again.

Driving is quite cool. Although, for me and my Mental Disablities (Asperger Syndrome for those that don't know), I tend to do things differently. For example, I forget what gear I am in, which way my indictor is going.. Although, he says that I either a) make the same mistakes as most people while driving or b) do some things that most don't do when driving. For example, I have good clutch and brake control, but what happens is that when I stop but prepare to go (you'll learn that eventually) instead of keeping the clutch low and bringing the gas up, I pull both up!

For some reason I have poor spacal awareness (e.g. I never know where to go while driving; I tend to always be in the middle.. ) and I also forget to check my mirrors while doing anything. I either not do it at all or look AFTER I've done it..

Although I make tons of errors, it is still fun to driving. And don't worry about anything at all; your instructor is there at all times to stop you if needed as he has controls on his side of the car so can stop you if needed.

Oh, We have that over here too. You have to take 2 of those style tests here; one is knowledge part, in which you need to just answer a multiple choice test, and another is hazard perception, i.e. what things you need to be aware of on the road, in which you get played a movie and have to mouse click when a hazard appears. But, here you can learn to drive and then do the test later. In fact you could even do as you are doing it and take the test before you go driving.

I think that way works well since you already have knowledge of the road before you start, although you could argue by doing it later you gain the knowledge before doing the test. Works both ways..
