Well, the new metal liquid soap dispensers that fit neatly into the openings left by the old powdered soap dispensers are slowly but surely being installed in restrooms across property. They're at a few locations in each of the parks, and I'm sure that over the next few months we will see more of them and fewer of those tacky plastic things. It took a while, but I think everyone will be pleased.

PS, I don't think there were ever any powdered soap dispensers at DAK, so they won't be there, but they are at MK, Epcot, and MGM.

The sad part is that next week Disney will announce they are getting out of the liquid soap business to concentrate on the new gel soaps. :p

I am trying to remember the powdered soap. White or pink? Floral scent or spicy? I think it was white...

Why have they done away with it? Was Disney the only place to use it? Does it save money somehow to use liquid soap?

Sorry I am so clueless as I know you guys have discussed this before...

Thanks!

The powdered soap was white. And from what I read of these boards(Safari Steve I believe), the change was because of the anthrax porblem. Disney was concerned any type of white powder could cause a scare.

The plastic soap dispensers, tacky as they may seem, have one advantage, expendability.

Too often, I have seen soap dispensers abused, sometimes lying on the floor with a full tank of soap leaking slowly out and going to waste. (How many sanitary engineers can and will empty the tank into one or more still functioning half full dispensers without spilling?)

This has to do with the ergonomic design as well.

The kind where you pull the lever forward is more likely to come off the wall completely compared with the kind where you push a button or lever towards the wall.

And I have seen some metal dispensers where you are supposed to lift the plunger instead of pulling it towards you and the plunger is broken because somebody pulled it and nothing happened the first time.

The design that has been developed involves a horizontal metal tube with a button on the end that you push with your thumb or the heel of your hand. It is kind of like a lotion dispenser, and they seem quite sturdy.. I have yet to see a broken one (he said while searching for a piece of wood to strike vigorously).
