Hello Ladies...I have a question based on your personal experiences.

I am 46 and have had night sweats for about a year and a half. Last month my period lasted three days and I hardly knew it was there. I actually got excited thinking hey this menopause thing isn't so bad!

This month has been horrible. I have had terrible cramps and a heavy period for 6 days now. Here is the odd thing , along with that I have been nauseated, had a headache and terrible diarrhea. (Sorry to be so direct). Today is day 7 and things are calming down some on all fronts. Have any of you experienced flu like symptoms during peri menopause or could that just be coincidence that they happened at the same time? I am hoping that this isn't going to go hand in hand with irregular periods. The one thing I can't stand is nausea!!!!

Thanks for your input.

I honestly don't know, but I am rapidly approaching that age and I am dreading this. Search the forum, there have been some good threads on this topic. One lady thought she had something seriously wrong with her and it turned out to be menopause. Not looking forward to this.

I haven't had that but huge amounts of prostaglandins during your period will make you have bad cramping and diarrhea. It's one of the reasons that ibuprofen helps with this stuff because it is "anti-prostaglandin." I suppose if the cramping was bad enough, you would definitely have nausea.

That said, have the cramps been lasting the full 6 days? If so, then I would say the other symptoms are period-related. If the cramps were only at the beginning but you have ongoing gastro troubles, you might just have a little gastro bug at the same time.

I was having lots of symptoms like you describe. I talked to my gyn about it and she said definitely perimenopause. She put me back on the pill to help alleviate my symptoms and it worked. My gyn said I can just stay on the pill until I'm through menopause. It is a very light dose.

The cramps were bad in the beginning but have tapered off but yea the gastro stuff has lingered some. Maybe it is a bug :confused3 Oh the joys of being a woman .

So you did have the gastro stuff as well during your period? Gosh I hope this does not happen often. How long did that go on till you went on the pill?

I did have the gastro stuff during my period. It went away when I went back on the pill, thankfully.

My gyno swears I'm not perimenopausal, but I really think I am. Periods have been crazy for over 1 1/2 years now, I go from sweating to freezing at the speed of light, I gain weight just watching someone else eat, and I'm horribly crabby. Last month, I had no period at all. I've been on the pill for years, and can't imagine how bad my symptoms would be if I stopped taking them! I might murder someone!

Just wanted to give you a word of advice: I got a DIS violation for a similar thread. Tread carefully. :surfweb:

Had the 'skipped' periods with none to heavier, but didn't have the cramps and nausea. Have completely finished with the sweats, etc. and is nice to be over and done with.

Not to scare you, but just to be on the safe side and to ease your worries, pain and frustrations, I would make an appoint. for a check up.

Hope you soon feel better! :flower3:

Yep same here!

I'm younger then you but go through many of the same things and my NP believes I'm in peri. Good luck!!

I have the extreme cramps, nauseous, and wacky cycles.

This month I went 38 days. I have been somewhere between 14-26 since this all started. First month it went over. Even though my tubes are tied I bought a pregnancy test. I was nauseous for days, cramping but no cycle and sleeping way too much.

I must admit I am not dealing well with this new time of my life. It has been 6 to 8 months of inconsistency and new symptoms. It just sucks!

Interesting...and I'm sorry! Yes day 7 of nausea. I thought about buying a test as well. I keep saying maybe I will feel better tomorrow!

It's EVER so much fun, isn't it?? :crazy2: I'm 47, have been dealing with this for several years now, and it's a constantly changing kaleidoscope of weird symptoms and hormone madness. How my DBF hasn't run away screaming, I have no idea. :lovestruc

It's weird, some symptoms get worse and some get better, and it's just always changing. A couple of years ago, every month was BAD. Really bad. Now it's not bad at all, but the emotional stuff seems *way* worse... and I'm one who has really never dealt with PMS in her life. I was on the pill for most of my adult life until about 10 years ago, and now I've had Paragard for about 2 months. (BTW, one of the BEST decisions I've ever made)

I do get stomach issues randomly during that time, but not every month. Sometimes it's headaches. Sometimes it's backaches. Sometimes it's crabby-ness, sometimes weepy-ness, sometimes I swear I'm developing later-life bipolar disorder, LOL.

It is definitely becoming more irregular... I think that part annoys me more than anything!

I am 48 and have been perimenopausal for several years. I have bad cramps throughout my period. I had internal ultrasounds to make sure everything was ok and it is.

Last year my PMS was really bad. DH wouldn't talk to me during it. So my gyn put me on Prozac and 800mg ibuprofren for the cramps. Both made a world of difference.

I had tried going back on the pill (been off it 15 years) and it made me sick. Due to my mom's death from breast cancer, gyn didn't want to give me anything with hormones.

I can never tell what the temperature actually is because I go from extremes within minutes. I can't wear long sleeves but I have to carry a sweater or jacket.

My length of time between periods vary greatly month to month. I can go 3 weeks then 5 weeks then back to 4 weeks.

I also get minor stomach problems but it is during PMS not my period.
