What would your perfect stroller for an older child at disney be? My son is 5 and has some issues that I don't wanna go into on this board so please don't start telling me he should be walking and I don't need a stroller. :) Also, can't do a cheapie umbrella stroller because DH is 6'4 and they are too short.

Our plan is to buy a stroller when we get down there to use while at disney and the 3 days following at other parks. Our last day we will sell it at resale store. We have done this anytime we travel and it works out pretty nicely.
Thanks.

For our last trip I did a ton of research (even bought and resold a different stroller) and ended up with a First Year Ignite.

We rarely use a stroller but knew we needed something for Disney. Our everyday stroller had 'died' after three kids. This is our last kid so I didn't want to spend alot on it. This is light weight and folds compact. It reclines, has a sunshade and has a place for the adult to put a drink (not quite a cup holder). It has a bit of storage. I LOVED it for Disney, especially for an older toddler/kid. We will use it for our next Disney trip too. My LO was 2 last trip and 3 this trip. Only concern I have is the weight limit for your 5 year old. I know I wanted something that could handle a heavier weight so my older kids could 'take a rest'. And this was ok but not the best. I check and it says 50lb weight limit - not bad.

Depends on a lot of things! Strollers are so hard to choose as there are so many variables.

I tried quite a few different strollers out when picking one for my niece to ride in at WDW. I took her to a large baby store and had her try out a few brands there. I know a lot of people love Maclaren strollers but I didn't like the way my niece was squashed in it and had her shoulders forward. I ended up buying a Peg Perego P3. It had a lot of features for one stroller. I liked that the handles extended (not a lot but still nice), folds like an umbrella stroller but can be stored standing, has 5 pt. harness, reclines almost flat, adjustable footrest, snack tray for child, cup holder for parent, a decent height for the back (tall niece), a large canopy, and a large basket to store things (not super hard/easy to get things in and out of).

I worked out how much it would cost me to rent a stroller for the 14 days we were at WDW and then tried to find a stroller around that price. I paid a bit more but I ended up using it 4X at WDW and still have it. I could still sell it and get back most of the money I spent on it as I bought it in the US and had it shipped to the resort and then took it home to Canada where it would have cost a lot more to purchase. I bought mine at www.albeebaby.com

First, my kids are almost 5 and still ride in strollers in Disney!!!! Where would out all our crap we love to haul around!?!

Second, I would say the City Mini. That's what we have! We have brought ours from home and rented them at Disney. Either way was fine!

Have fun!

We have an Uppa Baby Vista but it is too heavy to travel with so we will be taking our Chicco liteway plus. It is under $200. If you can go a bit more the citi mini is a good choice but not something I would buy and dump.

City mini hands down! We have 4 kids and have taken strollers 5 times to Disney.... After reading tons of reviews I bought city mini new but last yrs model...it was about 180 total after no tax or shipping. It folds so easy...I could hold my 3 month old and fold with one hand and keep walking while getting on the bus...no issues at all! Best Disney stroller!

While I think the citi mini is an awesome stroller, my son outgrew it at 5 (he was right at the 50 lb weight limit).

Is there a reason you're buying/selling and not renting?

I'd look into renting the citi elite (maybe that's what it's called). It has a higher weight limit than the citi mini.

I also recommend the first years jet or ignite for an older kid. It's cheaper to buy this than rent a city mini and it usually does the job - depending on what needs he has. It's an umbrella but much taller than the cheap ones. also holds up to 50 lbs.

I’d rent the Elite like the previous poster mentioned or I’d rent the Baby Jogger City GT. The GT is the next step up from the City Mini, has a higher weight limit and more leg room. I'm a City Mini owner (and previous renter)but will probably rent the GT next time we go when my son will be 5.

Not sure why you are wanting to buy and sell the stroller, but I’d rent one from a local place. They deliver to a lot of resorts, not just Disney ones. It’s yours for the duration of your vacation. You pick it up when you arrive and drop it before you leave. I’ve done it twice. It is very easy.

I bought a First Years Ignite recently in anticipation that I may want it on our next Disney trip (AND I no longer need a double stroller and our cheap umbrella stroller just annoys me every time I use it and our jogging stroller is too big to lug around to most stores ;) ). If you are in a location that has Shopko stores, they are clearanced at my local one for about $40, and I had a coupon for $5 off any $25+ purchase so it was a pretty good deal. It goes up to 50lbs (and my 50lb 8 year old has sat in it and it didn't break ;) I didn't push it around with her in it but with my 30lb 3 year old it pushes easily), can recline, has a cup holder and a zip pouch next to the cup holder along with a small basket under the stroller. It has a decent sunshade and it just a lot more sturdy than a normal umbrella stroller but you still get the small size. It is lightweight which was also a huge bonus to me. I'm short so I can't speak to how easy it is for a taller person to push but they do get great reviews. With how inexpensive it is I'll be glad even if we don't end up bringing it to Disney.

We buy then sell because it is cheaper. We buy it used at a resale shop and then resell to the same shop usually. For example when we went to Seattle I bought a stroller for $100 and got $50 back when we resold it. So for over a weeks use we only paid $50.

In that situation, you might not have your choice of which stroller would be good for a 5 year old. You will be stuck with whatever the store has. Maybe try Craigslist if you have a car? (search for Kissimmee, Windermere, Winter Garden or Dr. Phillips areas--all are fairly close to Disney)

I have a thing for strollers, and have owned at least 12-15. The most we've owned at once is 5, lol. (but, in all fairness, we have twins!) I like our Maclaren Techno a lot. It will hold up to 55lbs, has handles that extend for taller parents, has a decent basket underneath too. It folds up really small, as it's an umbrella type stroller--important when you are on and off shuttles and parking trams!

We rented the City Mini Double from Orlando Strollers this past August for my 3 and 7 year old (the 7 year old also needs the stroller due to special circumstances). She fit the weight and height (50 lbs each side, 49 inches in height). Great stroller, easy to maneuver. So, another recommendation for the City Mini!

I don't know what the rental companies in Orlando charge, but you may actually be able to rent one for cheaper than that. I know last year in CA we rented a City Mini for a week for $30-something, for example.

We did like it enough that we have since bought one, so I am planning to take it with us on our Disney trip. My son is a bit younger and slim for his age, though, so I don't know if the Mini will work for you guys or not.

Like others have said, the choices at a resale shop may be limited, depending on your local market. I have found City Minis to be nearly impossible to find a good deal on used (the upside of that is they should be easy to resell for a good price!), although I'm sure that varies.

I would take a quick look at rentals just to see how the price compares. It saves you the hassle of lugging it with you when travelling, and of reselling it at the end, and it might cost the same or possibly less.

Also city mini 4 wheel ( instead of the 3 wheels) has a higher weight limit. 65 lbs. My healthy 7 yr old shared the stroller with the 3 month old. There was a lot of times I had the infant in a baby carrier so she got the stroller then!

I will buy a Citi mini from last year new from Albee baby and then sell it. Albee baby has a big sale on last year's models by october until the end of the year which is going on now and you will pay ~160 for a new one. The city mini holds it value quite well for resale. The weight limit is 55, if you need a higher weight limit I will look into the citi mini 4-wheel or the city versa, they are a little more expensive though.
