Digitalis-Also called Foxglove, these are tall perennials, actually biennials (foliage the first year, flower the second) 24-50 inches. In my area they just do not come back successfully, the flower depletes the plant too much. They will however reseed. The following year there will be little plants growing everywhere. These reseeeded plants will not produce flowers until the following year.

I just put in new plants every year. That assures there will always be Foxgloves blooming. They should be planted in ordinary soil on the moist side, sun or semi-shade. Foxgloves are lovely flowers that bloom in the early summer. These tall graceful flowers swaying in the summer breezes are such a beautiful sight.

My absolutely favorite plant, Mamu!

Unfortunately, they don't like me and refuse to bear those beautiful spikes. I get one limp spike usually.

There are some foxgloves that are more reliably perennial than the digitalis purpurea (all those beautiful pastels with chocolate spots on them).

Digitalis grandiflora seems to work for me.

Take a peek!

*sigh*......but I really love those purples and pinks!

I've had pretty good luck with these coming back and flowering every year....when they bloom, I am ready for them. very nice flower.

I don't have any Foxglove in my garden, I wish I did, they are beautiful. :)

I'm thinking that maybe we should do a thread on poisonous plants, or has that been done and I missed it? I'll have to take a look.

Thank you Mamu and Gina!

Kim :)

I think foxgloves are so beautiful. They make me think of Beatrice Potter's tales (Peter Rabbit etc.). The watercolor illustrations often had beautiful stands of foxglove. These do not grow well in my conditions - so I get to admire them in other's gardens.

Should I cut mine back after they bloom? they have such large foliage that it kind of takes away from what is blooming later.

Cut it back as soon as you can and give it bone meal.

I do not have good luck with foxgloves need to replace then every year.

it comes back every year no not from seed the flowers are smaller than the biennial kind and I beleive they only come in a pale yellow(that is what I have)may come in other colors but I only have the one.

sorry do not know where I purchased this.Oh and tha plant itself is dwarf.
