people's ashes being spread around disney

Disney just wants to make sure you buy your "Eternity Park Hopper" ticket!:lmao:

Seriously, I've got to believe that there's some kind of pool type filter on the ride so scattering ashes on POTC is probably not a permanent resting place.

Maybe Disney should just start a cemetery plot at each park....

Having your ashes dumped anywhere in Disney is just plan stupid and selfish. Walt Disney himself doesn’t even have his ashes located on Disney property. This kind of behavior does nothing but take away from the experience.

I would hate to travel to WDW knowing someone’s ashes could possibly be floating beside me during Pirates. I’m sorry people but Disney is not and should not be the place where those who’ve passed are celebrated.

If I witness ANYONE attempting to spiritually scatter the remains of someone in or around Disney property I will personally look to address the situation. Please…keep the ashes were they belong. If you want to do something special for your late friend or relative, bring back a souvenir to their grave site.

I just thought of our family sitting on the curb waiting for the parade and having someone's Grandma blowing down Main Street.:scared1:

i agree. infact, i've told my wife that this what i want done.
I'll help hide her while she does it. I just want my husband to tote me back and forth each year. :rotfl: He doesn't have to leave me there, though I wouldn't mind if he left a bit of me here and there. I just want to be sure I keep going back. I've said I'm going to be the ghost at Party for the Senses forever because I had such a good time that I never ever want to miss a year. Ever. Forever. And I really, really mean it! :cloud9:

We had someone's ashes "dumped" right in our faces on the ferry to the Magic Kingdom, we were looking out the window and the people in the area in front of us just dumped a whole bunch and it all flew up in our faces. It was nasty! If the people hadn't all been bawling their eyes out, I would have had some stern words. I guess I should have reported it to someone.

take my word for it....someday this will be big business for disney....its not legal now cause they are not making any money off it....give it 5 years & they'll offer a private chartered boat to drop off your loved ones & say goodbye in the lagoon....anyone agree ???:rotfl2:

Disagree 100%

I'm sure it happens several times a day.

I really think it is selfish that people would just go and do this when it is not allowed. How would you possibly explain to your child what that individual/family is doing?
As a parent you need to explain the situation to your child and now the magical memory your child has is death and ashes? Selfish....

I don't like thinking about these kind of things but if I were to be cremated I could see a little bit of me (not all of me) going into either World Showcase lagoon or Crescent Lake. Since those two connect I could see Illuminations, listen to Off Kilter and then go over to the Boardwalk and the Beach Club and even over to MGM. I just love that whole area. But I would also want a part of me in the Florida Keys. But like I said I don't like thinking about these things and dont even know if I would want to be ashes!!!!

I always thought I wanted to have my ashes spread on Bay Lake so that all the people I love would have to vacation to see me. Now what happens if Bay Lake has to be dredged up for some reason, well I hadn't really gone that far in my thinking.

I'm not sure what kind of beliefs people have who do this but I believe that your soul leaves your body when you die. So you aren't actually there. So why in the world would anyone think they would be enjoying Off Kilter or the Rose Garden when they were dead?

Obviously they have beliefs that differ from yours.

Why do people go to the cemetery then? Same difference to me... I'd much rather have my family visit a location that is fun/beautiful/ happy/ reminds them of me then a yard filled with empty bodies...

I think it's fun to think about watching Illuminations or listening to Off Kilter. OBVIOUSLY I wouldn't REALLY be doing those things. That's kind of hard with no eyes or ears... but it's a comforting thought, and I know it would be comforting to my family, too. I hate thinking about my loved ones being under the cold yucky ground...:sad1:

But, of course, we all have different beliefs.. and that's what makes our country so great, we are allowed to have them, and can respect others for having their own. It doesn't mean they are bad people!

I'm always suprised with what I find on DISboards! Here I was, thinking I'd be reading about rumors of ashes being spread in POTC or Bay Lake, but nope, we're talking about religious beliefs!

I love it here!! :)

By the way, if somehow I could still experience WDW after death, I'd come back as a spirit instead. :)

Clearly. I think that's what I said and why I was asking the question of what the people who want to do this believe. Thanks to those who actually responded.

It's a new concept to me to think that a dead body (cremated, buried, or otherwise) can still hear, see, or experience things. I always felt burial or cremation and the rituals surrounding it was for the benefit of the survivors and for practicality's sake. I'm not saying anyone's beliefs are wrong, just observing that they are different from my own and trying to understand them.

Very interesting.. While I really wouldn't like my ashes spread around at WDW, I wouldn't mind letting my loved ones take a disney cruise and dumping me in the ocean. ;)
